Barcelona - The Sundance Institute announced on Thursday that five made-for-mobile short films commissioned by the Sundance Film Festival Global Short Film Project have been made available for streaming or download by the public. The free films can be accessed by texting the word 'FILM' to +44-7624807811. Once downloaded, the films can be also shared using Bluetooth or memory card transfer. Barcelona - The Sundance Institute on Monday introduced the five original made-for-mobile short films it commissioned as part of the Sundance Film Festival Global Short Film Project at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. The short films will initially be available only at the mobile industry conference, with wide distribution to mobile audiences to begin on Feb. 15. "We hope that the Global Short Film project inspires filmmakers and artists to think outside of the realm of traditional venues for cinema, and experiment with mobile as an intimate new avenue -- with global potential -- for their work," said John Cooper, director of programming for the Sundance Film Festival and creative director for Sundance Institute. Paris - Telco equipment provider Alcatel-Lucent said on Thursday that it has partnered with wireless carrier Telefonica on a pilot project for mobile interactive multimedia services in Spain. Results from the six-month pilot of mobile TV, radio and music services, launched in October, are slated to be presented next week at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. Eindhoven, Netherlands - Polymer Vision, a spin-off of Philips, has announced the development of the world's first "rollable" display for mobile devices, which it plans to display at the 3GSM World Congress next week in Barcelona. While the device itself is smaller than a typical mobile phone, it features a display that can extend up to 5-inches, and then roll back and wrap itself around the outer shell of the device when not in use. Polymer Vision said it partnered with wireless carrier Telecom Italia to offer the first rollable display-enabled mobile device later this year. |
