MTV Networks to Invest $500 Million in Games Over Next 2 Years

New York - Viacom's MTV Networks plans to invest more than $500 million in video games over the next two years, as part of a plan to incorporate games into all new programs at their inception, Reuters reported.

San Francisco - Atom Entertainment, a short films and online games company recently acquired by Viacom's MTV for $200 million, on Friday launched a NewsGames channel, which will feature online games based on current events. Hosted by the company's AddictingGames site, the channel will initially host titles like "Zidane Headbutt," "Bush Backrub" and "Cheney's Fury." San Francisco-based Atom said it will develop dozens of new titles each year, and promote the best user-generated games that mock popular headlines and cultural topics.

AtomShockwave Acquires Casual Games Site AddictingGames.com

San Francisco - AtomShockwave, a distributor of short films and online games, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the casual games site AddictingGames.com. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. With the addition of AddictingGames, which ranked as the 23rd most-popular casual games site, with more than 5 million monthly unique visitors, AtomShockwave said its Shockwave.com is now the third-largest casual games site on the Internet, with a monthly audience of more than 30 million users. San Francisco-based AtomShockwave also now claims to be the largest privately-held online entertainment company.
