AdSenseGoogle to Shutter AdSense Video Units FeatureAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on March 31, 2009 - 12:01pm.
Mountain View,
Calif. - Google (NASD: GOOG) has decided to
shutter its AdSense video units feature, which allowed users to show YouTube
content and ads on their websites. "We've found that it hasn't had the
impact we had hoped for. As a result, we've decided to retire this feature at
the end of April so we can focus our resources on other opportunities to help publishers
earn from their sites," the company wrote in a blog post. Publishers will
still be able to add YouTube videos, but will have to embed them directly from
YouTube.com. Google also recently shuttered its Radio Ads and Print Ads
programs.

Mountain View,
Calif. - Google (NASD: GOOG) will now allow
advertisers using its AdSense program to post "expandable" ads, which
enlarge when a user clicks on them. Google will not use the more-intrusive
version of expandable ads, which enlarge when a user simply mouses-over them.
The company pitched the ads as good for movie trailers, video game clips, and
showing multiple views of items posted for sale.
