San Mateo, Calif. - VideoSurf, a new online video search service backed by Current Media co-founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, on Wednesday launched a beta version of its service at the TechCrunch50 conference in San Francisco.

San Francisco - Current Media, the new media TV and Web video network founded by former Vice President Al Gore, on Monday announced plans to file for an initial public offering (IPO) of shares that could raise up to $100 million, according to an SEC filing. Founded in 2002 by Gore and partner Joel Hyatt, Current Media operates a cable TV network and website that feature a mix of professionally-produced and user-generated content, targeted at young adults.

Park City, Utah - Organizers of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival Online said on Friday that during the first week of the festival, an estimated 700,000 viewers watched festival videos on the Internet -- nearly twice as many as had at this point last year. Some of the traffic was generated by an extended interview with former Vice President Al Gore at the festival that was posted to the site.

Al Gore-Backed Current.tv Digital TV Network to Launch on August 1

San Francisco -- Former vice president Al Gore has announced that his re-named Current.tv youth-oriented digital TV network will launch on Aug. 1. Formerly INdTV, the 24-hour Current.tv network will offer short-form video content, produced both professionally and by viewers, on both the Internet and in 19 million homes subscribing to DirecTV satellite and Time Warner cable TV services. "The Internet opened a floodgate for young people whose passions are finally being heard, but TV hasn't followed suit," said Gore. "We intend to change that with Current, giving those who crave the empowerment of the Web the same opportunity for expression on television." Current.tv will offer video segments between 15 seconds and five minutes in length, on topics ranging from politics and the environment to technology, entertainment and relationships. The company, which is also backed by entrepreneur Joel Hyatt, also announced a relationship with Google, and will produce video segments based on the current popular Google searches in real-time.

Group Led by Al Gore Buys Cable News Channel

Washington, D.C. -- Vivendi Universal Entertainment announced that it has sold its cable news channel, Newsworld International, to an investment group led by former Vice President Al Gore. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Newsworld currently is produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. and accessible by about 17 million North American households. The TV network will be renamed IndTV and target an audience in the 18-35 age group. Gore will serve as chairman of the board and reportedly plans to devote most of his time to the network. Joel Hyatt, an entrepreneur and former finance chairman for the Democratic National Committee, will serve as the network's CEO.
