Paris - French wireless firm Alcatel announced on Tuesday that mobile network operator T-Mobile International will use its technology to launch mobile TV services with T-Mobile subscribers in Germany, the U.K. and Austria. Alcatel will aggregate live TV content, and provide features such as an electronic program guide for the "TV in Your Pocket" services.

Barcelona - French wireless firm Alcatel said on Monday that it will supply a mobile music service for StarHub, the second-largest wireless network operator in Singapore. The Alcatel mobile music system was designed by the company's PacketVideo Network Solutions unit, and allows users to stream playlists and purchase songs, video clips, ringtones and other content on their phones.

Paris - French telecom Alcatel announced on Thursday that it has formed a new unit that will focus on mobile TV. Alcatel senior vice president of strategy and business development Olivier Coste was named president of Alcatel Mobile Broadcast, which will address issues facing mobile TV such as providing global coverage, and bandwidth limitations when large numbers of subscribers in the same area are simultaneously accessing the same channel. "Alcatel's unique positioning in both mobile and satellite activities worldwide will help to bring a complete and efficient Mobile TV solution to our customers based on a hybrid offer combining terrestrial and satellite coverage," said Etienne Fouques, president of Alcatel's mobile activities.

Cannes, France -- Alcatel, a French provider of applications for wireless network operators, on Tuesday announced a number of new wireless multimedia initiatives, including a multiplayer game and music video services. The company partnered with French wireless games firm BeTomorrow to launch "Xploded," which it says is the first Java-based mobile multiplayer game that supports up to 40 simultaneous players. In April, Alcatel and Korean wireless network SK Telecom will launch a photo-music-video service, allowing users to combine their own digital photos with music and video content that they can send to other cell phones or e-mail addresses. Finally, Alcatel partnered with Universal Mobile to jointly develop, promote and market new mobile multimedia services featuring Universal content. The companies said their efforts will result in the creation of video mailbox, video delivery portal and video ring back tone services.

Paris -- French telecommunications firm Alcatel announced on Friday that it has acquired the mobile video server business of San Diego-based PacketVideo, a developer of streaming video technology for mobile devices. Financial terms of the transaction, which does not include PacketVideo's device technologies, were not disclosed. PacketVideo will continue to operate as a developer of streaming video software for mobile devices. PacketVideo's Network Solutions video server business serves customers including NTT DoCoMo, T-Mobile, Orange, Mobilkom, New World Mobility and others. Alcatel said the purchase will strengthen its offering for portals, application service providers, content aggregators and mobile operator customers.
