- Contestants on the current season of "American Idol" have been made
to shutter existing profiles on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, and instead have
posted notes to fans to follow them on the "official" American Idol
feed on Twitter. Several reports speculate that the reasoning was to make it
more difficult to ascertain the popularity of a contestant, based on their
popularity on social media.

- Record label 19 Recordings, which handles the release of performances from
Fox's "American Idol," said on Friday that winner Kris Allen and
runner-up Adam Lambert control 26 of the top 100 tracks on iTunes (NASD: AAPL) sales charts
this week. Allen holds three spots in the top ten, including No. 2 ("No
Boundaries"), while Lambert's "Mad World" is No. 7. The duo also
controls 29 of the top 100 music videos on iTunes. The label noted that other
Idol performers' songs are still charting on iTunes, including David Cook,
Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Danny Gokey, Jordin Sparks
and Kellie Pickler.
