New York - Nielsen Media Research and NetRatings on Wednesday announced the launch of a new database that merges ratings data from TV and Internet audiences. The National TV/Internet Fusion database utilizes Nielsen's People Meter, which monitors TV viewing of 30,000 respondents, with NetRatings' NetView, which electronically tracks Internet use of 29,000 panelists.

New York - Nielsen Media Research announced on Wednesday plans to launch a new video game rating service, which will seek to establish new metrics for the buying and selling of in-game and other video game-related advertising. GamePlay Metrics, from the company's new wireless and interactive services division, will harvest data from Nielsen's existing measurement system on the most popular titles among gamers, and combine it with other demographic information and data such as which TV shows they watch. "A reliable and accurate standard of measurement for video gaming will drive advertising investment in this medium and help convert video game advertising from a discretionary advertising experiment to a must-have option," said Jeff Herrmann, vice president of Nielsen wireless and interactive services. Nielsen's GamePlay Metrics Service is slated to begin providing weekly video game ratings data in mid-2007.

New York - Satellite TV provider DirecTV, which counts over 15.5 million subscribers, announced on Wednesday an agreement with TNS Media Research to launch an audience measurement service that will focus on DirecTV interactive subscriber households. TNS will use aggregated and anonymous clickstream data from a sample based on 250,000 DirecTV customers to provide content producers and advertisers with a better understanding of consumer consumption of DirecTV's various programming and interactive services.

New York -- 24/7 Real Media, a provider of ad serving technology, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Insight First, a provider of Web analytics services. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. New York-based Insight's marketing and sales analytics have been used by clients including MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and UAL Loyalty Services. 24/7 Real Media CEO David J. Moore said that the addition of Insight will help its advertiser customers "better understand and more effectively target their best Web customers." Insight founder and CEO Tony Schmitz will join 24/7 Real Media as chief technology officer.
