New York - New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has sued San Francisco-based social network Tagged, alleging the company violated users' privacy and used deceptive marketing practices to inflate site traffic.

New York - After five years and more than 35,000 copyright infringement lawsuits filed against suspected music file-swappers, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has decided to end its litigation campaign, opting instead to negotiate agreements with Internet service providers to take action against their subscribers, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. The RIAA has "hashed out preliminary agreements with major ISPs" that will take somewhat of a "three-strikes" approach, asking customers to stop file-sharing, and potentially cutting off their Internet access if they fail to comply after multiple notices.

NY Attorney General Asks Comcast to Block Child Porn

New York - Following similar actions taken against other broadband providers, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has sent a letter to Comcast (NASD: CMCSA), the nation's second-largest broadband firm, threatening legal action if it does not agree to take specific steps to block child pornography. The previous letters have resulted in ISP's including Time Warner Cable, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint Nextel blocking access to all or some newsgroups on Usenet -- a pre-Web online forum that hosts tens of thousands of discussions groups, a handful of which have been used to host child porn images.

Verizon, Time Warner Cable, Sprint to Block Child Porn Sites

New York - Major Internet service providers Verizon (NYSE: VZ), Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) and Sprint (NYSE: S) have agreed to block access to child pornography by eliminating access to child porn newsgroups, and purging their servers of any child porn websites, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday. The companies will also collectively pay $1.1 million to fund additional efforts by the AG's office and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to remove child pornography from the Internet.
