Buzz Watch: The New York Times Readies HD Online Video Channel

In the Beet.tv interview, Ann Derry, The New York Times's Editorial Director of Video and Television, outlines the thinking behind the new HD video channel,  including integrating social tools to share videos on sites such as Facebook and Digg. It looks fantastic. My only questions is - why has it taken the NYT and many other great newspapers and magazines so long to discover the synergies and potential of extending editorial coverage with video?
