IDG to Supply Video Game Content on Ask Jeeves

Oakland, Calif. - IDG Entertainment, a provider of interactive entertainment-related news and information, announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement to provide product descriptions, images, and links to video game cheats, FAQs and pricing information to search provider Ask Jeeves. The IDG content will appear at the top of relevant Ask Jeeves search results pages.

Barry Diller's IAC Buys Search Engine Ask Jeeves for $1.85 Billion

New York -- IAC/InterActiveCorp, the company headed by Barry Diller that owns Expedia, Ticketmaster, Citysearch, Match.com and the Home Shopping Network, announced on Monday that it has agreed to acquire Internet search engine Ask Jeeves, the ninth-largest global Web property, for $1.85 billion in cash. IAC said it plans to integrate its brands into Ask Jeeves' search service, which was launched in 1996 and allows users to enter questions in plain-English as search queries. "We believe that in the future [Ask Jeeves] has the potential to become one of the great brands on the Internet and beyond, and by beyond we mean in wireless, in the search for anything on any device," said IAC chairman and CEO Barry Diller. Oakland, Calif.-based Ask Jeeves reported $261.3 million in revenue for 2004, largely resulting from its share of revenues from a paid search ad service provided by Google.

Lycos Dumps Yahoo Search Results in Favor of Ask Jeeves

Oakland, Calif. -- Search engine technology provider Ask Jeeves has announced that Lycos has chosen it to replace Yahoo's Inktomi as the provider of search results on the Lycos Web portal. Oakland, Calif.-based Ask Jeeves' search and advertising products are also used by InfoSpace, BellSouth and CNET Networks. "Ask Jeeves' Teoma search technology will deliver outstanding results to users of our new search-centric experience at Lycos.com," said Adam Soroca, general manager of search services for Lycos.

Search Engine Provider Ask Jeeves Acquires Bloglines

Oakland, Calif. -- Ask Jeeves, a provider of search engine and online ad services, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Trustic, the parent company of free online blogging tools provider Bloglines. Financial terms of the deal, which parallels rival search engine Google's acquisition of Blogger.com, were not disclosed. Founded in 2003, Redwood City, Calif.-based Bloglines currently indexes more than 280 million news feeds, blog articles, images, audio and video elements, providing its services in seven languages. Oakland-based Ask Jeeves said it plans to integrate Bloglines' RSS aggregation capabilities with its Teoma algorithmic search technology. "Bloglines is a natural fit for our multi-brand portfolio, as we extend our information retrieval services to encompass the rapidly growing amount of dynamic content and information available in the blogosphere," said Jim Lanzone, senior vice president of search properties for Ask Jeeves.

Search Engine Firm Ask Jeeves Acquires Desktop Search Provider Tukaroo

Emeryville, Calif. -- In a move into the desktop search market, where larger rivals Google and Microsoft are making headway, search engine provider Ask Jeeves announced that it has acquired Tukaroo, a San Jose, Calif.-based developer of desktop search technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2003, Tukaroo makes desktop search and file management software designed to enable users to access, view and manage data on their computers in real-time. Steve Berkowitz, the CEO of Ask Jeeves, said that the acquisition fits in with the company's growth strategy, which it began in 2002 with the acquisition of the Teoma search engine.

Ask Jeeves to Acquire Interactive Search Holdings for $343 Million

Emeryville, Calif. -- Shares of Ask Jeeves, a web search engine provider, surged 40% on Thursday after the company announced that it has agreed to acquire New York-based Interactive Search Holdings (ISH), a privately held online search and media company. Terms of the deal include $150 million in cash and 9.3 million shares of common stock and options, for a total of $343 million, based on Ask Jeeves' closing price on Wednesday. "This acquisition will enable us to combine Ask Jeeves' proven strengths in user experience, search technology and brand development with ISH's strengths in distribution and direct marketing," said Steve Berkowitz, the CEO of Ask Jeeves. ISH's web properties and businesses include My Way, My Search, My Web Search, iWon, Excite and the MaxOnline advertising network. The company processed about 700 million web searches in the fourth quarter, according to comScore Media Metrix. This compares to 680 million searches on Ask Jeeves' sites during the same period.
