Association (CEA) on Thursday announced its 2010 executive board, which will
continue to be chaired by Gary Yacoubian, the vice president of strategic
development for Monster Cable Products. Other members include Brian Dunn, the
CEO of Best Buy; Denise Gibson, the chairman, of Brightstar U.S.; Stan Glasgow, the president and COO of
Sony Electronics; Ian Hendler, the director of business development at Leviton
Manufacturing; and Mark Luden, the president and CEO of The Guitammer Co.

contest, which will award $10,000 for the app that most demonstrates how

months of warnings and public service announcements from the government and
broadcast industry, all U.S.
over-the-air TV stations on Friday were scheduled to shut off their analog
signals and begin broadcasting in digital format. Roughly 98% of viewers --
including those who subscribe to cable or satellite services -- were expected
to remain unaffected.

- A coalition of public interest groups has written to President Obama, calling
on him to "diversify" future appointments to intellectual property
policy positions, after Obama named several former attorneys from the Recording
Industry Association of America (RIAA) to top positions within the Justice
Department. The 19 organizations signing onto the letter included the
Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Public Knowledge, Consumer Electronics
Association, American Library Association and Wikimedia Foundation.

Washington - The U.S. transition
to digital television on June 12 will likely be a bit rocky, acting Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Michael Copps told lawmakers this week, and
while just 3.6% of households remain unprepared, according to Nielsen, problems
could be exacerbated by a shortage of digital TV converters. "Some may say that
we won't be ready on June 12 either, and that there will still be consumers
left behind. And that is true, this transition will not be seamless,"
Copps told the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee.

the world's biggest telecommunications companies. But he needs to brush
up on his American history. Accepting the Digital Patriot Award
from the Consumer Electronics Assn. last night, Seidenberg lauded the
"unprecedented" progress being made in the U.S. in building out
broadband networks, nearly all of it accomplished with private capital
investment. The only projects of comparable scope and speed, he
maintained, were construction of the Interstate Highway system and the
Apollo space program, "both of which required billions of dollars of
taxpayer money."
