Barnes & Noble Unveils $259 Nook E-book Reader

New York - Bookseller Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) on Tuesday introduced its own e-book reader device, the $259 Nook, which features both a six-inch reading display and a color touch-screen display with virtual keyboard, The New York Times reported. The Nook sports both Wi-Fi connectivity, and a link to AT&T's 3G wireless network for browsing and purchasing e-book titles.

Gizmodo Posts Images of Barnes & Noble E-book Reader

San Francisco - Gadget site Gizmodo has published what it claims are images of the forthcoming e-book reader device from Barnes & Noble, which sports both a Kindle-like, black-and-white e-ink screen, and a multi-touch color screen similar in functionality to the iPhone. Barnes & Noble is also planning a "major" press event for next Tuesday, the site noted. Gizmodo said that "a source from within" provided the images and details, available at the link below.

New York - Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BN) is preparing to release its own e-book reader device, which will sport a 6-inch touch-screen from E-Ink and a virtual keyboard, The Wall Street Journal reported. The device could go on sale as early as next month, sources told The Journal.

New York - Bookseller Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BN) on Thursday announced the launch of a new publishing program that will "return to print important and noteworthy books in affordable, high quality, hard cover editions." Barnes & Noble Rediscovers titles will be available for between $9.95 and $14.95 each both in stores and online; among the 33 launch titles are "Darwin's Century"; "History in English Words"; and "Shakespeare and the Goddess of Complete Being."

Sony to Debut New E-Book Readers, Discount Top E-Book Titles

New York - Sony (NYSE: SNE) plans to introduce two new e-book reader devices on Wednesday, priced at $199 and $299, and will also cut prices on bestselling e-books at its online store, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person briefed on the matter.

AT&T to Power Free Wi-Fi at Barnes & Noble Bookstores

New York - On the heels of its announcement that it would launch a new eBookstore and begin selling an e-book reader device, bookseller Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) said on Tuesday that it has signed a deal with AT&T (NYSE: T) to provide free Wi-Fi in all of its stores nationwide.

Mountain View, Calif. - Plastic Logic, the developer of an e-book reader device to be sold by new eBookstore operator Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BN), has announced that the device will connect to the Internet wirelessly using AT&T's (NYSE: T) 3G network. The device is slated to go on sale in early 2010. Amazon's (NASD: AMZN) Kindle e-book reader connects to the Internet through Sprint (NYSE: S).

New York - Bookseller Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) has announced the launch of what it says is the world's largest eBookstore, which initially will offer more than 700,000 titles in a range of e-book formats. The company also announced an exclusive deal to sell a forthcoming e-book reader hardware device made by Plastic Logic, taking a page from rival Amazon (NASD: AMZN) with its Kindle reader.

Barnes & Noble Buys E-book Retailer Fictionwise for $15.7M

New York - Bookseller Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) announced on Thursday that it has acquired Fictionwise, an online retailer of e-books, for $15.7 million in cash. Founded in 2000, New Jersey-based Fictionwise offers e-books for a range of platforms and devices, and sold an estimated 1.5 million units in 2008.
