Buzz Watch: Will Search Data Predict The Right American Idol Winner Again?

You may remember that in May 06, we used Hitwise search term volume data to predict that Taylor Hicks would win American Idol Season 5. After sweating it out, watching the finale on my living room coach (I was quoted that morning in USAToday predicting Taylor Hicks to be the winner), our prediction came true.

Game consoles in the UK has had a surging popularity this holiday season (excluding Playstation 3 as its not commercially available in the UK), so I decided to post some U.S. data comparing queries for the two popular console "playstation 3" and "Nintendo Wii," as well as last year's holiday hit the Xbox 360.

This morning I taped a segment for CNBC about our press release yesterday on the hottest products this holiday season. One of the things that struck me about our search data this holiday is the resurgence of those foot warming sheepskin phenom. the UGGs.

Latest Search Numbers: Google Climbs Back Above 60%

Last month Hitwise released the latest numbers on executed searches by search engine. A lot of attention was paid to Google's slide in August below its high north of 60%. As we stated in our post last month, August's dip was likely a short term phenomenon.
