The recent release of the G1 (aka Google phone) through T-Mobile and soon to be released Blackberry Bold & Storm prompted me to compare search activity among the new handheld devices. We often compare the search volume on new products to gauge the strength of consumer interest and how that may translate into sales. The Blackberry Storm was the most commonly searched product with 3.5x the volume of searches for Blackberry Bold and 3.9x the volume of the G1.

Analysis: Blackberry Benefits from iPhone Hype

Authored by Robin Goad on June 18, 2008 - 6:34am.

A lot of the iPhone launch coverage last week included references to the alternatives to Apple’s latest mobile phone. It looks like the competitor that benefited most from these comparisons in Britain was Blackberry – ironic, considering that many are touting the new 3G iPhone as a ‘blackberry-killer’. As you can see from the table chart below, UK Internet searches for ‘blackberry’ reached their highest ever level last week.

Buzz Watch: The BlackBerry 9000 - an iPhone Killer?

Authored by Jay Baage on April 30, 2008 - 8:09pm.

Yes, Research in Motion (NSDQ: RIMM) is trying to jazz up it's popular email cell phone, the BlackBerry, (read our previous coverage here) and rumors are that the new 9000 model will be sexy enough to take on Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone. As the funny financial web video show Wallstrip notes in the episode embedded above, if the company succeeds in making the new Blackberry appeal to both business as well as "regular" consumers, it may be a stock to keep an eye on. But then again, it is very hard to try to be everything to everybody...
