Blockbuster Expands Online Game Rental Pilot to Seattle

Dallas - Video rental chain Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) on Wednesday announced that it will expand a pilot test of its online game rental service to Seattle, after launching in Cleveland earlier this year. The $7.99 Games By Mail service is available to Blockbuster Online movie rental subscribers, and allows unlimited monthly rentals with one game out at time.

Blockbuster to Market iMemories Home Movie Transfer, Storage

Scottsdale, Ariz. - iMemories, a website that provides digitization, storage and sharing service for home movie films and videos, on Thursday announced a partnership with Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI), which will market its services on Blockbuster.com and in select Blockbuster retail stores. The service lets users create custom DVDs of their home movies, as well as share them on password-protected websites.

Paramount Debuts "Circle of Eight" Series on MySpace

Los Angeles - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) Paramount Digital Entertainment on Tuesday announced the exclusive premiere on MySpace (NYSE: NWS) of its original supernatural thriller webisode series, "Circle of Eight." Produce in association with Mountain Dew's Green Label Studios, the 10-part series combines elements of gaming and social media to propel the story. Following the end of its exclusive run on MySpace in December, the series will be made available for rent from Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI).

TiVo Adds Blockbuster On Demand Rentals

Alviso, Calif. - TiVo (NASD: TIVO) announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) to offer a range of new release movies for rent on its digital video recorders. The Blockbuster On Demand service will allow TiVo subscribers to rent new release titles from Blockbuster for between $2.99 and $3.99, including select HD titles. In addition, TiVo DVRs will be sold at thousands of Blockbuster stores nationwide.

Blockbuster Cuts Size of Viacom Debt by $50 Million

NCR to Put Blockbuster DVD Rental Kiosks in Big Y Stores

Duluth, Ga. - NCR (NYSE: NCR), a maker of automated kiosks, announced on Thursday that it will install Blockbuster Express (NYSE: BBI) DVD rental kiosks in 57 Big Y grocery stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The kiosks can house up to 800 DVDs, which cost $1 per night to rent. NCR said it will invest up to $60 million this year to build out its DVD rental kiosk operations. It expects to deploy more than 2,500 in 2009, making for a total of 10,000 kiosks by mid-2010.

Report: DVD Rental Kiosks to Take 30% of Market Next Year

Blockbuster, which did not provide details on a launch date or pricing, said the move was in line with its goal of making OnDemand available via multiple consumer electronics and portable devices.

Dallas - Video rental giant Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with electronics maker Samsun to make its OnDemand service available on select Samsung HDTVs, home theater systems and Blu-ray players. Beginning in the fall, the services will offer online rentals from Blockbuster streamed directly to the devices, in addition to on-screen search and browsing, ratings, trailers and other information.

San Antonio, Texas - Video rental giant Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) has hired Kirkland & Ellis to explore a possible bankruptcy filing, a person familiar with the situation told Bloomberg. The news sent the company's shares plummeting more than 86%, to 13 cents, before trading was halted on the NYSE.

Dallas - Video rental giant Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) announced on Wednesday that it has signed a multi-year deal with Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC), and will supply branded consumer interfaces for Sonic's CinemaNow Internet-based movie delivery service. The companies said they are collaborating with a number of consumer electronics makers to expand the range of devices supporting the Blockbuster-branded, adaptive streaming and progressive download service, to include PCs, portable media players, Blu-ray Disc players, digital video recorders, set-top boxes, mobile phones and Web-connected televisions.

Dallas - Video rental giant Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) announced on Tuesday that it has signed a three-year deal with concert promoter and venue owner Live Nation (NYSE: LYV), to serve as the exclusive physical retail ticketing outlet for the company's new in-house ticketing company. Under the agreement, Live Nation will sell tickets to concerts and other events at approximately 500 Blockbuster company-owned stores "in strategically chosen markets across the country that mirror Live Nation's concert venue platform footprint."

Blockbuster Introduces VOD Set-top Box

Dallas - Video rental giant Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) on Tuesday introduced its new video-on-demand set-top box, the 2Wire MediaPoint digital media player. The device supports HD video content and can be connected to an HDTV set, but otherwise delivers "DVD-quality" video. At launch, the company is offering the device for free, with the advance rental of 25 on-demand movies -- which runs $99. After the initial rentals, movies will rent through the broadband-connected device starting at $1.99 each.
