Sprint Nextel to Buy Virgin Mobile USA in $483 Million Deal

Reston, Va. - Looking to boost its prepaid cell phone business, wireless carrier Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) said on Tuesday that it will acquire Virgin Mobile USA in a deal valued at $483 million. When the deal closes later this year or in early 2010, Sprint plans to pair its Boost Mobile business with the Virgin Mobile brand, uniting two of the major players in the fast-growing market for prepaid wireless.

Frengo Debuts Text Message-based Social Mobile Games

Redwood City, Calif. - Frengo, a publisher of text message-based mobile games, on Monday introduced its service and announced a partnership with Boost Mobile. The Redwood City, Calif.-based company said its games revolve around sports, celebrities and pop culture, and are intended to enhance social networking. Frengo launched a text alert-based game for Boost Mobile subscribers, which lets them predict winners in the NCAA college basketball tournament; the company added that its titles work on all major U.S. wireless networks. Frengo also offers a game-building kit that allows members to create user-generated games.

Boost Mobile to Distribute Vivendi Games Mobile Titles

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games Mobile announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement with virtual mobile network operator Boost Mobile, to offer a number of Vivendi mobile game titles to Boost Mobile customers. The agreement covers titles including "Black Hawk Down," "Empire Earth," "Navy Battle," "SWAT Force" and "The Legend of Spyro."
