Buzz Watch: Sacha Baron Cohen's New Movie "Bruno" Has Online Appeal

Sacha Baron Cohen will follow-up last year's success of Twentieth Century Fox’s "Borat" with another R-rated comedy based on a Cohen character from "The Ali G Show" namely the flamboyant fashion journalist "Bruno". This time it will be a Universal production (they won the bidding war, reportedly coughing up $42 million for the worldwide rights) and the release date is set to be May 15, 2009, making it a high-profile summer release. "Bruno" is an example of a controversial movie that will present traditional marketers with a challenge, but it has potentially huge online appeal. There is already an unauthorized (?) site set up with user-generated news, video and pics from the movie that you can find here. It will be very interesting to see Universal's approach to marketing this movie going forward...

Last night, the much anticipated Twentieth Century Fox movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan premiered in London. Ali G comedian Sacha Baron Cohen showed up on the red carpet in full Kazak character as Borat and told reporters he also had another reason for being in London:

"I have come here with Bilak, my 11 year old son, his wife and their child, and we are hoping maybe to put some chocolate make-up on the child's face and sell him to Madonna. I am hoping that Madonna will be a very good father for it."

BoratJagshemash! The coming movie “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” featuring Sacha Baron Cohen has been called this year’s most offensive masterpiece. The trailer is hilarious and if the movie is anything like it, I’m sure that it will score big with the millennials at the box office this fall. When it comes to music, Justin Timberlake is reaching new highs with his latest album “Fururesex/Lovesongs”. It is pure 21st Century club energy.
