Boston - The Boston Globe announced that it plans to reduce its newsroom workforce by about 50 positions, or 12% of its entire editorial staff.

Boston - Despite reported interest by some private investors, including Jack Welch, the former CEO of GE, and advertising executive Jack Connors, the New York Times Co. does not intend to sell The Boston Globe, Janet Robinson, CEO of the parent company, told reporters on Thursday.

Boston - Boston.com, the website for The Boston Globe and a unit of The New York Times Company, announced on Monday that it will provide hundreds of online news, sports and entertainment video segments to Blinkx, a searchable index of Web video. San Francisco-based Blinkx's advanced speech recognition technology automatically indexes and transcribes the video content from Boston.com, so that users can search video via keywords.
