Viewers will be able submit text and video comments on both President Bush's address and the Democratic response, with select portions airing throughout ABC's coverage of the event, which also will air on AOLNews.com. Online visitors can submit text comments to AOL News and video segments from cell phones and other wireless devices to ABCNews.com. ABC News anchors will answer viewer questions through video responses to be posted on the web. Washington -- U.S. satellite radio programming providers XM and Sirius announced on Monday that Canada's Federal Cabinet has upheld a ruling from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), granting the companies the right to broadcast their signals in Canada. Washington-based XM did not say when it would launch in Canada, while New York-based Sirius said it would launch in Canada "as soon as possible later this year." XM's Canadian service will be operated by partner Canadian Satellite Radio, while Sirius' will be run by its partner the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and Standard Radio. As part of the deals struck in Canada, both XM and Sirius will devote channels to programming produced by Canadian artists in both English and French, as is required of Canadian terrestrial broadcasters.

London -- The BBC announced that it has signed a contract with Creative Broadcast Services Ltd., which is owned by the Macquarie Capital Alliance Group and Macquarie Bank Ltd., for the sale of its digital media division, BBC Broadcast, for approximately $304 million. With the news, Creative Broadcast beats out a group of bidders that included Advent International, Apax Partners, Bank of Scotland Corporate, Barclays, Bridgepoint, Exponent, HgCapital, Kleinwort Capital, Montagu, Palamon Capital Partners LP and the Carlyle Group. "Creative Broadcast Services made the BBC a great offer and showed real capabilities in managing a contractual long-term partnership with a commitment to growing and investing in the business," said BBC chief operating officer John Smith. Completion of the sale is still subject to approval from the U.K. Secretary of State for culture, media and sport.

The romantic drama "PS I Luv U" will air in 30 three-minute episodes for cell phone subscribers in Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia, prior to airing in a single 90-minute TV program in early 2006. Mediacorp told Reuters it plans to produce at least 10 additional mobile TV series for 3G mobile phone services in 2006.

Oxford, England -- NTL Broadcast and U.K.-based mobile operator O2 announced that they plan to test run Britain's first mobile TV service in July. The companies said the six-month trial, which will investigate how people use the service, would provide a wide range of programs from 16 different channels, including shows from the Discovery Channel, CNN, the Cartoon Network and a short-film channel called Shorts International. The service employs the DVB-H transmission standard, which has been developed for the broadcast of TV signals on mobiles and other handheld devices. While NTL and O2 research shows that more than half of U.K. mobile users are very interested in watching TV programs on their mobiles, the companies admit that they are still unsure how people will use the services.

In addition, Maryland-based iBiquity said that it has signed a deal to receive up to $30 million more in structured debt financing from DC private equity firm Columbia Partners. The influx of capital gives the company a huge financial boost as it continues to roll out its HD Radio technology, which allows terrestrial radio stations to broadcast a digital signal alongside their traditional analog signals. In recent months, iBiquity has received commitments to deploy the technology -- which digitizes standard AM and FM signals to enable better sound quality and new wireless data services -- at 2,500 radio stations in the U.S.

Teletrax, used by ABC, NBC News, Reuters Television and others, embeds video watermarks into programming that can then be monitored to generate broadcast tracking reports. The service was launched two years ago using patented technology from Philips and Digimarc. In addition to supporting the development of Teletrax, the net proceeds will be used for working capital and to reduce bank borrowings.

Los Angeles -- The two co-founders of webcaster Broadcast.com, which was sold to Yahoo for $5.7 billion in 1999, announced on Thursday that they have reunited to acquire Landmark Theaters, the nation's largest art-house theater chain. Production company 2929 Entertainment, which was co-founded by Broadcast.com co-founder Todd Wagner, and partner and former Broadcast.com CEO Mark Cuban, have purchased the financially struggling property from Oaktree Capital Management. "Our goal is to aggressively leverage our ability to produce our own films, promote and display them on [Mark Cuban-owned HDTV-based network] HDNet and HDNet Movies and exhibit them at Landmark," said Wagner. "We think this acquisition provides a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in the art and independent film, HDTV production and digital exhibition communities." The partners also plan to eventually introduce digital projection systems into Landmark Theater locations.

Southbury, Conn. -- IBM said on Friday it plans to introduce new broadcast encryption technology for home networks at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas next month. The technology works by allowing all of the devices within a "home" network to establish common media keys. The unique IDs distinguish each device in the network from other devices, preventing viewing or listening of the content by devices outside the network.
