Las Vegas - Car audio equipment maker Audiovox on Tuesday introduced a new smart digital adapter that enables any car stereo equipped with Radio Data Service (RDS), a feature introduced in 1998 that allows digital display information to be sent to FM radios, to receive satellite radio programming from XM Satellite Radio. RDS has been offered in cars made by Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford and Volvo, among others. Audiovox's $69 Terk Smart Digital Adapter may be used in conjunction with a $49 XM Direct tuner to bring satellite radio to a car's RDS-ready radio receiver.
