Nintendo of America announces the appointment of two sales and marketing executives to work from the company's new Bay Area office in Redwood City, Calif. Denise Kaigler joins as vice president of Marketing & Corporate Affairs, while Bill Van Zyll becomes the new director and general manager of Latin America. Ask.com Chief Executive Officer Jim Lanzone is leaving the company in a management shake-up at parent InterActiveCorp, the company announced late Wednesday. Lanzone took over the CEO spot in April 2006 when then-CEO Steve Berkowitz left to head up Microsoft's MSN and Windows Live expansion. Lanzone will serve as entrepreneur-in-residence at Redpoint Ventures while remaining in an advisory role at Ask.com for a few months. More than two months after the departure of Gary Forsee as its president and CEO, Reston-based Sprint Nextel late last month found a replacement in wireless industry veteran Daniel Hesse, most recently the chairman, president and CEO of Embarq. He succeeded Paul Saleh, the company's CFO, who served as interim CEO for two months. Hesse had been chairman and CEO since Embarq's inception in 2006, and previously served as the CEO of Sprint's Local Telecommunications Division. Earlier in his career, he spent 23 years at AT&T, serving as the president and CEO of AT&T Wireless Services from 1997-2000. The E. W. Scripps Company, which intends to separate into two publicly traded corporations by mid-year 2008, has begun appointing board-level leadership and members of the management teams that will lead the company's various media businesses upon completion of the transaction. At The E. W. Scripps Company, William R. Burleigh, 72, will continue to serve as chairman of the board of directors. Burleigh, who served as president and chief executive officer of the company for five years, has been chairman of the board since 1999. At Scripps Networks Interactive, the new company that will be created in the separation, Kenneth W. Lowe, 57, will be chairman of the board and Nicholas B. Paumgarten, 62, will be the company's lead independent director. Lowe, who also will serve as president and chief executive officer of Scripps Networks Interactive, has been president and chief executive officer of The E. W. Scripps Company since 2000. Virtual world Second Life's chief technology officer has resigned. Cory Ondrejka, employee No. 4 at San Francisco-based Linden Lab, which owns Second Life, quit Tuesday and will depart at the end of the year. Ondrejka helped write the computer code that underpins the popular virtual world. Napster today announced that Nand Gangwani has resigned as vice president and chief financial officer effective at the end of the calendar year. Mr. Gangwani has been commuting from his home in the Bay Area to Los Angeles for the last four years and has decided to step down for personal reasons. Mr. Gangwani's last official day at the Company will be December 31, 2007, but he will remain available to Napster during the transition period. Suzanne M. Colvin, Napster's vice president finance, and corporate controller, will serve as the Company's interim chief financial officer during the transition while a search is conducted for Mr. Gangwani's replacement. |
