Carmike Cinemas to Screen Digital 3D U2 Concert Film

Columbus, Ga. - Carmike Cinemas, which owns or operates 270 theaters in 37 states, announced on Wednesday that it will screen "U2's Vertigo World Concert Tour" in digital 3D format at 191 of its theaters beginning on Feb. 5. The multi-million dollar film had its premiere this week at the Sundance Film Festival.

Real D to Equip 500 Carmike Cinemas Screens with Digital 3D

Los Angeles - Real D, a provider of digital 3D cinema technology, announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement to equip 500 Carmike Cinemas screens with its Real D Cinema technology. The deployment will begin immediately and run through 2007, with 200 of the screens expected to be equipped before the release of Disney's "Meet the Robinsons" in March. The deal with Carmike brings the total number of screens committed to adding Real D technology to 850 worldwide.

Carmike Cinemas to Convert 2,300 Screens to Digital

Morristown, N.J. - Carmike Cinemas, which owns 307 movie theaters in 37 states, announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with Access Integrated Technologies, to deploy up to 2,300 digital cinema projection systems throughout the U.S. Carmike and AccessIT's Christie/AIX unit will begin installing digital projectors in January, and expects the rollout to be completed by November 2007. Christie/AIX said it also signed agreements with Disney, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Sony and DreamWorks, and will act as the financing intermediary between studios and theater owners receiving the digital cinema systems. In addition, AccessIT plans a secondary offering of shares in the very near future to provide equity funding for the deployment.
