CES 2008

Analysis: Blogging and CES

Authored by Jay Baage on January 11, 2008 - 1:41pm.

CES 2008 - As the Consumer Electronics Show comes to an end, one take-away is the rapid change in how the general public found out about what was going on in Vegas. As a blogger myself, I know the importance of this new form of communication all too well (as well as the discussion about whether it is "real" journalism or not), but rarely have I seen such a powerful demonstration of how widespread the blogging phenomenon has become.

Tech Industry Provides New Opportunities for Adult Entertainment

Authored by Jay Baage on January 11, 2008 - 11:06am.

CES 2008 - Overlapping the last days of CES is the 10th annual Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. It's no secret that the tech industry and the porn industry have been in bed with each other for a long time (excuse the lame analogy, could not resist) but this year it's more obvious than ever before. The Internet, HDTV and mobile devices are all over the show floor as the big shots of the $12 billion adult entertainment business show off their latest stuff, as MSNBC gives you a glimpse of in the clip above.

7 Ways to Stand Out At A Tradeshow: Marketing Lessons From CES

Authored by Rohit Bhargava on January 11, 2008 - 9:06am.

CES 2008 - I spent this week at what is probably the largest tradeshow in the world. The sheer size of CES means that information overload is inevitable, and the consistent challenge for any exhibitor at a show like this is rising above the clutter. If you think about it, this challenge is no different from any other tradeshow or exhibition ... though CES is surely more difficult to stand out at than most. Throughout the show, there were a few vendors that did do something noteworthy to stand out. This post is about how they did it and some marketing lessons you can learn from their efforts.

It Won't Stay in Vegas (Especially If You're A Blogger)

Authored by Rohit Bhargava on January 9, 2008 - 10:37am.

CES 2008 - What happens in Vegas this week won't stay here for too long. If you have been watching or reading any media at all this week, you have seen all the rampant coverage of everything from CES. Being here at the epicenter of the hype has been an interesting experience. Think of it as a cross between a museum exhibit of never before seen artwork, and walking past storefront display windows on 5th Avenue.

Analysis: Looks like Blu-ray Finally Have Won the High Def War

Authored by Jay Baage on January 8, 2008 - 10:05am.

CES 2008: It looks like this year’s Consumer Electronics Show might be remembered for Sony’s (NYSE: SNE) Blu-ray disc winning the high def disc format war. With Warner (NYSE: TWX) announcing that they are going exclusively with Blu-ray and rumors that Paramount will do the same, it might just be checkmate for Toshiba's HDDVD format.

MSNBC Goes Viral with David Pogue at CES

Authored by Jay Baage on January 7, 2008 - 7:37pm.

CES 2008 - MSNBC has taken a leap into the digital age by allowing users to grab the embed code of basically all its video and putting it up on their blogs or personal websites. This video is from CES, where NBC by the way has a HUGE presence, featuring their latest contributor, NYT's tech columnist David Pogue, showcasing some of his gadget picks.

Analysis: CES Is More About General Trends Than Specific “It” Devices

Authored by Jay Baage on January 7, 2008 - 1:23pm.
CES 2008 - The Consumer Electronics Show, which officially opened today here in Las Vegas, is, as usual, controlled chaos... Here are my initial impressions after the first day of rubbing shoulders with roughly 140,000 attendees and exhibitors (as well as the occasional celebrity like CSI-Miami's David Caruso) in the 1.85 million square feet of exhibition space.

Analysis: Bill Gates and the End of the “PC Guy” Era at Microsoft?

Authored by Jay Baage on January 6, 2008 - 11:26pm.

CES 2008: Bill Gates delivered his last keynote as Chairman of Microsoft at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. While he treated the audience to a hilarious celebrity-filled farewell video and played Guitar Hero on stage with Guns’n Roses star Slash, he did not make any really ground-breaking new announcements (as DMW’s readers predicted.) Gates’ keynote underscored the fact that Microsoft is still far from a digital entertainment company (but at least they are working on it.)
