Championship Gaming Series Launches YouTube Channel

Los Angeles - The Championship Gaming Series (CGS), a worldwide gaming league whose contests are broadcast by DirecTV and other partners, announced this week at Digital Media Wire's LA Games Conference the launch of an ad-supported CGS channel on YouTube (NASD: GOOG). The clips will include serialized footage from CGS regular season and training camp matches, player tips and tricks, behind the scenes and interviews with team managers and players.

Eurosport to Broadcast Championship Gaming Series

Los Angeles - The Championship Gaming Series, a worldwide professional video game players' league, has announced a deal with Eurosport and BSkyB that grants Eurosport the exclusive continental European broadcast rights for CGS. Along with CGS coverage on Sky in the U.K. and Ireland, on DirecTV in the Americas, and on STAR and ESPN STAR Sports in Asia and Australia, the company says its tournaments now have a potential TV audience of 400 million viewers.

Championship Gaming Series Details Inaugural $1 Million World Final

Los Angeles - The Championship Gaming Series announced on Tuesday that its inaugural World Final, which will feature a prize purse of $1 million, will be held Dec. 6-14 at Sony Studios in Los Angeles. The 12 top CS teams from around the world will compete for a top prize of $500,000 at the event, which will be broadcast by DirecTV in the U.S.; BSkyB and others in the U.K.; ESPN STAR Sports in Asia; Sky in Mexico and Brazil; and DirecTV throughout the rest of Latin America. Other broadcast partners for mainland Europe are also being secured.

Championship Gaming Series 2CNET’s Daniel Terdiman posted an article about the Championship Gaming Series today, and it wouldn’t have been such a big deal had Terdiman not called it the “New video-game league” in his title.  The league, after all, has been going on for quite a while now, but maybe they don’t want you to know that.  I wrote a review of the Los Angeles leg of the series last December, which you can find below.  Having seen it firsthand, it’s obvious Terdiman doesn’t know much about the league, aside from his coverage of the draft at the Playboy mansion.  The piece comes off, to one who knows, like a cheerleading PR release more than a news story.  The reason?  Read my article to find out.

DirecTV to Broadcast Championship Gaming Series Live in HD

El Segundo, Calif. - Satellite TV provider DirecTV said on Thursday that it will air events from the Championship Gaming Series, an international pro video game league, live and in high-definition when the season begins on July 9. The broadcaster had previously planned to air taped versions of the events. "If you can't catch a sporting event live, then it's not a true professional sport,” said DirecTV Entertainment executive vice president Eric Shanks. "We're giving the CGS the same star treatment as NFL Sunday Ticket and all of our innovative sports programming."

Championship Gaming Series Announces $5 Million Player Payroll

Los Angeles - The Championship Gaming Series, a global professional video game league, announced on Friday that worldwide salaries and bonuses for its 2007 season will exceed $5 million. The league will begin qualifying rounds this weekend, with its first draft to be held at the Playboy Mansion on June 12. Titles selected for this season include "Counter-Strike: Source" and "FIFA 2007" for PC, and "Dead or Alive 4" and "Project Gotham Racing" for Xbox 360. League events will be broadcast in North America on DirecTV; in the U.K. on BSkyB; and by STAR in Asia and Australia.
