San Francisco - MTV Networks said on Tuesday that it recently launched its first high-definition channel, MHD, which broadcasts in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Programming will include "MTV Unplugged," "VH1 Storytellers," "CMT Crossroads" and other music concerts and events. MHD will deliver programming to broadcast centers using the Dolby E compression format, which is then re-encoded into Dolby 5.1 for transmission to cable and satellite TV providers, and on to HDTV receivers and set-top boxes.

Los Angeles - National Lampoon announced on Tuesday the launch of its first broadband programming channel. "National Lampoon Toga!" will feature elements from the company's National Lampoon College television network, as well as from its library of films and TV programming. The company partnered with Brightcove to provide video distribution, ad delivery and asset management for the broadband TV service.

Atlanta - CNN announced on Monday that it has launched an interactive TV news service on the DISH Network satellite TV service, which is operated by EchoStar Communications. The CNN Enhanced TV service, created by interactive TV developer OpenTV, includes TV news coverage from CNN and online content from CNN.com, and offers viewers the ability to vote in online polls and view on-air schedules.

Baghdad - JumpTV, an online TV network that syndicates more than 100 local channels from nearly 50 countries, announced on Wednesday that it has launched five independent Iraqi TV channels on its service. For a monthly subscription of between $9.95 and $19.95, viewers can watch Iraqi channels including Al Baghdadia, Alsumaria and AldiyarSat, which is broadcasting gavel-to-gavel coverage of the trial of Saddam Hussein. The service is mainly intended for Iraqi expatriates, but the company hopes to add subtitled translations to attract more English-speaking subscribers.

New York - Broadband Enterprises, a provider of Web video syndication services, announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Clear Channel Television to provide content for the company's 40 TV station websites, and syndicate Clear Channel content to its network of over 400 websites. New York-based Broadband Enterprises said it will oversee all ad sales for the syndicated content, which also includes video from Singingfool.com, the Associated Press, Warner Bros., Space.com, BusinessWeek and CSTV.com.

El Segundo, Calif. - As some lawmakers in Washington press the pay-TV industry for a la carte programming and more regulations on indecency, satellite TV provider DirecTV announced on Wednesday that it will launch a new family-friendly programming package in mid-April for its 15 million customers. The "Total Choice Family" package will cost $34.99 per month and feature 40 channels, including local broadcast networks and Bloomberg, CNN, Discovery, Disney, Food Network, NASA TV, Nickelodeon, QVC and Trinity Broadcasting Network. "The new DirecTV Total Choice Family programming package is appropriate for viewing by family members of all ages and includes popular children's, religious and general family entertainment programming," said Dan Fawcett, executive vice president of programming at DirecTV. "We have answered the call from concerned parents and policymakers and have designed a programming package to meet the needs of DirecTV families." Los Angeles - A producer of Discovery Channel's "Monster House" series has partnered with Effects LLC and streaming video provider Maven to launch The Fix, an online TV network that aims to offer all original programming. Brian Knappmiller and partner Ruben Navarrete created The Fix after a TV series they pitched was passed over by the networks. While The Fix is expected to launch in the spring of 2006, production on Web shows will begin in February, and the company is still actively seeking content and investors.

Instant Live recordings available now from Napster include performances from The Allman Brothers Band, Bauhaus and The Black Crowes.

The format offers pre-recorded programs in digital files that can be automatically downloaded to an MP3 player. After debuting the podcast show "Phone Tap" on Clear Channel's WHTZ-FM Z100 station, the company today launched 20 new podcast feeds from an additional 12 stations, with 10 more planned to launch later this week. Among the new Clear Channel stations to offer talk radio shows in podcast format will be WAQX and WKTU in New York; KYSR in Los Angeles; WLW-AM in Cincinnati; and WDVE in Pittsburgh.

"We think that Kazaa is one of the largest online communities in the world and foresee a great potential in this deal," said MatchNet chairman and CEO Joe Shapira.
