WSJ: Apple Still in iPhone Distribution Talks with China Mobile

Dalian, China - Shortly after signing a non-exclusive deal with China Unicom to sell the iPhone in China, Apple (NASD: AAPL) remains in iPhone distribution talks with China Mobile, The Wall Street Journal reported. The talks were confirmed by China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou at the World Economic Forum. China Mobile, which claims 141 million subscribers, operates on a proprietary 3G CDMA network -- meaning Apple would have to modify the iPhone to work for China Mobile subscribers on 3G.

Los Angeles - China Mobile, which counts over 421 million subscribers in China, said that it has surpassed 80 million subscribers to its new M.Music Wireless Music Club, up from 48 million reported in September 2007, Digital Music News reported.

Macau - The CEO of China Mobile, that country's largest mobile network, revealed on Tuesday that the company is in talks with Apple (NASD: AAPL) to distribute the iPhone in China, although no deal is in place and revenue-sharing issues are still being discussed, IDG News Service reported.

Shenzhen, China - The Orchard, a digital distributor of independent music, announced on Wednesday that it has signed a deal to license its catalog to Huawei Technologies' AIMI service. Huawei provides mobile digital music services to wireless carriers who collectively count over 160 million subscribers worldwide, including China Mobile and Thailand's AIS.
