Former MTV President Christina Norman To Head The Oprah Winfrey Network

New York - MTV's former President Christina Norman is named CEO of Discovery Communications' (NASD: DISCA) forthcoming Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). Ms. Norman will work alongside OWN Television President Robin Schwartz to greenlight programming for the network's late 2009 or early 2010 launch, on what is currently the Discovery Health Channel, available in 70 million homes, reports AdAge.

MTV President Christina Norman Stepping Down

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Networks on Friday announced that MTV president Christina Norman is stepping down at the end of the month, to pursue new opportunities. MTV Music and Logo Group president Van Toffler will assume her duties until a replacement can be found.

MTV is slowly turning its ship to head in a new direction. The problem is not what the company has done in the past 25 years, I would argue it is what it has not done in the past 5 years. It missed a number of new media opportunities seized by Apple’s iTunes, News Corp’s MySpace and YouTube. The man responsible for that is New Viacom CEO Tom Freston. But MTV’s new President Christina Norman finally promises new initiatives “in the next couple of months” including a social network of their own.
