Morristown, N.J. - Access Integrated Technologies, a provider of digital cinema distribution systems, announced on Tuesday that it has launched a digital cinema anti-piracy initiative, which will utilize watermarking technology to protect digitally projected cinema programming. The company said its Christie/AIX unit will now incorporate Philips' CineFence forensic watermarking technology in its ongoing 4,000-screen digital cinema deployment plan.

San Diego - UltraStar Cinemas, a Southern California theater operator with 102 screens, announced on Friday that it has become the first exhibitor in the nation to equip all of its screens with digital cinema projection systems. San Diego-based UltraStar partnered with Access Integrated Technologies and Christie Digital Systems to equip its screens with digital systems. The company said it has already screened alternative entertainment such as a live Duran Duran concert and the Super Bowl via its digital system, and also plans to project the Academy Awards live in some locations.

Los Angeles - Real D, a developer of digital 3D cinema delivery technology, announced on Thursday that it has expanded its roll-out to include several theaters in the U.K. and Germany. Real D systems will be installed in several Odeon and Vue theaters in Great Britain, and with German theater owners Cinema Theatre and Cinecitta Multiplexkino. The theaters will first present Disney's "Chicken Little" digitally animated feature in Real D Cinema format. Los Angeles-based Real D has now installed 102 of its systems worldwide, and intends to install than 1,000 by 2007.

New York -- DG2L Technologies, a developer of digital cinema and other digital media technologies, announced that it has created what it says is the first MPEG-4 based, end-to-end digital cinema distribution and presentation system. New York-based DG2L said that Entertainment Cinema Networks (ECN), a service provider to theatrical distributors of film, will use the DG2L Digital Cinema System to launch its digital film distribution service in India. The company said its digital cinema system incorporates an encryption engine as well as the industry's High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) security technology.
