Audiovox to Acquire Thomson's Audio/Video Electronics Unit

Hauppauge, N.Y. - Audiovox, a supplier and value-added service provider to the consumer electronics industry, on Tuesday announced that it has agreed to acquire Thomson's U.S., Canada, China and Hong Kong consumer electronics audio video business.

XM Satellite Radio Introduces Two New Satellite Radios

Washington - XM Satellite Radio, the provider of satellite radio services in the midst of a merger with rival Sirius, on Monday unveiled two new satellite radios. Manufactured by Audiovox, the Xpress features a split-screen display and advanced features such as 30-minute pause and replay. It will retail for $129.99, while an entry-level version will retail for $69.99.

Korean Consumer Electronics Firm Sorell Raises $2 Million

Seoul, South Korea - Sorell, a Korean consumer electronics firm spun off from Samsung that makes portable MP3 and media players, mobile cameras and other devices, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $2 million in new financing, placed through New York Global Securities.

Audiovox Suspends XM Radio Shipments Over FCC Specifications

Hauppauge, N.Y. - Electronics maker Audiovox announced that it has suspended shipments of one of its XM Satellite radio receivers, after the FCC found the device does not comply with federal operating bandwidth or emission specifications. New York-based Audiovox said it would not resume shipments of its XMCK10 Xpress Model radio until it can bring the device into compliance with FCC specifications.

Audiovox Introduces Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver

Las Vegas - Audiovox on Thursday introduced a $99 plug-and-play receiver and car kit for Sirius Satellite Radio. The SIRCMB5 can also be upgraded with kits for a second car or home stereo connection for $39 each.

Audiovox Adapter Brings XM Content to RDS-Equipped Car Radios

Las Vegas - Car audio equipment maker Audiovox on Tuesday introduced a new smart digital adapter that enables any car stereo equipped with Radio Data Service (RDS), a feature introduced in 1998 that allows digital display information to be sent to FM radios, to receive satellite radio programming from XM Satellite Radio. RDS has been offered in cars made by Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford and Volvo, among others. Audiovox's $69 Terk Smart Digital Adapter may be used in conjunction with a $49 XM Direct tuner to bring satellite radio to a car's RDS-ready radio receiver.
