Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft has reopened its Soapbox video-sharing site, after ceasing new registrations for the service while it installed filters to block the uploading of copyrighted content. "We are also now conducting proactive filtering of all uploaded content, using technology from Audible Magic," reads a post on the Soapbox blog. "The law is the law," said Margaret Boribon, secretary general for Copiepresse. "We are producing protected works and the law in Europe says clearly that to re-use that content you have to ask for permission. We want every search engine, aggregator or re-user of our content to respect it and to ask for agreement and to pay a fair price." Copiepresse's ongoing case against Google will return to court next month.
