Sonic's CinemaNow to Add 3D Movie Downloads

Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC) said on Tuesday that it will offer 3D movies for download via its Roxio CinemaNow service, for playback on 3D-enabled PC monitors and televisions. The company is working to ensure compatibility with device's featuring Nvidia's (NASD: NVDA) graphics chips. In addition to compatible monitors, users will need a pair of modern plastic 3D glasses in order to properly view the films.

Santa Clara, Calif. - Graphics chipmaker Nvidia on Friday named David White as its executive vice president and CFO. He succeeds Marvin Burkett, who announced his plans to retire in March 2008. White most recently served for five years as the executive vice president and CFO at Sanmina-SCI, and previously spent seven years as the CFO of Asyst Technologies. Burkett, who has been the company's CFO for more than six years, is expected to continue serving as a senior advisor.

San Francisco - A group of hardware and software creators, game developers and publishers on Thursday announced the formation of the PC Gaming Alliance, a non-profit whose stated purposed is to advance the PC as a worldwide gaming platform. Members include Acer/Gateway, Activision Publishing, AMD, Dell/Alienware, Epic Games, Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia and Razer. Market research firm DFC Intelligence projects the PC game business will grow more than 80% over the next five years, with major increases in the number of PC gamers, revenue from digital distribution, and PC hardware sales.

Santa Clara, Calif. - Graphics chipmaker Nvidia announced on Tuesday that it has received notice from the Nasdaq that its shares are not in compliance, due to a delayed filing of its quarterly report. The company is currently conducting an internal review of its stock options granting practices dating back to 1999, and has received a request from the SEC for information regarding the practices. The SEC is currently investigating over 80 technology firms' stock options grants, to determine if companies adjusted the date on which grants were issued to increase their values for employees. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Nvidia said its shares will remain listed on the exchange pending a hearing with the Nasdaq.

Nvidia, Hybrid Graphics Partner to Improve 3D Mobile Games

Austin - Graphics chipmaker Nvidia announced this week that it has partnered with Finland-based Hybrid Graphics, to create an expanded toolkit for developers creating 3D games and other 3D content for mobile phones. Under the deal, Nvidia will include Hybrid's Mobile Framework V6 in its software development kit.

Sony, Nvidia Partner on PlayStation 3 Graphics Chip

Tokyo -- Sony Computer Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with graphics chipmaker Nvidia to develop a custom graphics chip for Sony's next PlayStation video game console. The multi-year agreement will include undisclosed royalty payments to Santa Clara, Calif.-based Nvidia. The graphics chip will work alongside the "Cell" processor being jointly developed by Sony, IBM and Toshiba for the PlayStation 3, and will be "the graphics and image processing foundation for a broad range of applications from computer entertainment to broadband applications." "In the future, the experience of computer entertainment systems and broadband-ready PCs will be fused together to generate and transfer multi-streams of rich content simultaneously," said Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Ken Kutaragi. "Our collaboration includes not only the chip development but also a variety of graphics development tools and middleware, essential for efficient content creation."

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Nvidia, a developer of graphics and communications chips popular in PC gaming applications, announced on Friday that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has concluded its investigation into the company's accounting practices. While neither admitting nor denying any wrongdoing or receiving any penalties or fines, Santa Clara, Calif.-based Nvidia agreed to an administrative cease and desist order prohibiting any future violations of certain federal securities laws. Separately, the SEC announced that it has brought financial reporting fraud charges against former Nvidia chief financial officer Christine Hoberg, related to the accounting investigation. Chipmaker Nvidia In Tentative Deal With SEC Over Accounting Probe

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Graphics chipmaker Nvidia announced on Friday that it has reached a tentative deal with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding an investigation launched into the company's accounting practices. The SEC had been planning to take enforcement action related to the investigation, but Nvidia said in an SEC filing that the tentative deal's terms would not call for any fines or penalties to be paid -- only calling for the company to cease and desist any future violations of the securities laws in question. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Nvidia, which makes graphics chips including the chip used in Microsoft's Xbox game console, restated its earnings in April 2002 going back two years, a result of accounting errors uncovered in an internal investigation. The company said it may take months for the SEC to approve the tentative deal, if the deal is approved at all.

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Graphics chipmaker Nvidia on Thursday announced an alliance with independent video game developer Electronic Arts. The two companies will jointly produce 3D content for top-selling EA games and franchises, and implement Nvidia-specific features and special effects in several upcoming EA titles such as "Madden NFL Football 2004." As part of the agreement, PCs powered by Nvidia's graphics processors will be the preferred platform for EA's PC game developers. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Nvidia will also be given the rights to bundle certain EA titles for PC with Nvidia products and those of its partners.

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Graphics chipmaker Nvidia announced on Thursday that it has settled all of its pricing disputes with Microsoft over the chipsets it has been supplying for the company's Xbox video game console. The companies had been in arbitration related to the pricing of Nvidia's Xbox GPU (graphics) and MCP (audio and networking) chipsets. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Nvidia and Microsoft said they will collaborate on future cost reductions for the Xbox. "This is a win for both companies, and we couldn't be more delighted with the results," said Nvidia president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang.
