Verizon Wireless to Acquire Alltel for $28.1 Billion

Basking Ridge, N.J. - Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement to pay $28.1 million to acquire Alltel, the Arkansas-based telecommunication services provider. Alltel serves more than 13 million customers in 34 states, including 57 primarily rural markets that Verizon Wireless does not serve.

New York, N.Y. - Alltel Corp., the Arkansas-based voice and data communications service provider, has agreed to be acquired by New York-based Goldman Sachs and Texas-based TGP Capital for $2.5 billion.

Washington - Alltel Wireless said on Thursday that it has signed a deal to become the first wireless carrier to give subscribers access to programming from XM Satellite Radio through their cell phones.

Little Rock, Ark. - Wireless network operator Alltel, which claims 10 million subscribers, on Monday announced the launch of a commercial-free streaming radio service. Developed for Alltel by MobiTV, the Axcess Radio service will feature 40 channels and will be available for an extra $6.95 per month.

Dijji Brings Napster Ringtones Service to Alltel Subscribers

Seattle - Dijji, a distributor of mobile entertainment content, announced on Monday that it has partnered with Napster to launch the Napster Ringtones service for wireless network operator Alltel's 10.5 million subscribers. Polyphonic ringtones, master recording ringtones, voicetones and "artist shoutouts" from the Napster Ringtones library will now be available to Alltel subscribers for between $1.99 and $2.99.

Alltel Adds Mobile TV Service from MobiTV

Little Rock, Ark. - Mobile network operator Alltel, which claims 15 million customers in 36 states, announced on Thursday that it has partnered with MobiTV to offer live TV and on-demand video content to its subscribers. The $9.99 per month service will initially be available to subscribers with a Motorola Razr V3c handset, with other models to follow. With the addition of Alltel, Berkeley, Calif.-based MobiTV's service is now available from three of the top five U.S. wireless carriers.
