Report: Facebook Paid $65 Million to Settle ConnectU Lawsuit

Palo Alto, Calif. - Facebook paid $65 million to settle a lawsuit from the founders of ConnectU, a rival social network that claimed Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg stole the idea from them while they were all at Harvard, a legal blog called the The Recorder reports. The blog cites an announcement from the law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges -- which represented ConnectU -- that states, "Won $65 million settlement against Facebook."

New York - Online social network Facebook is finalizing the settlement of several lawsuits with ConnectU, whose founders claim that Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for a company when they were all Harvard undergraduates, The New York Times reported. Citing a person briefed on the status of the lawsuits, The Times reports that all motions in Facebook's countersuit against ConnectU, which claim unfair business practices, have been terminated, while motions to dismiss all of the pending litigation between the companies are expected to be filed "within weeks."

New York - Facebook has asked a judge to throw out a lawsuit filed against it by ConnectU, a rival social network that claims Facebook was created from code stolen from ConnectU's creators, the Boston Globe reported on Friday.

Boston - A judge told the company suing online social network Facebook for copyright infringement, breach of confidence, fraud and misappropriation of trade secrets that its case was lacking in concrete evidence, and gave the company until Aug. 8 to revise its complaint, CNET News.com reported.
