Las Vegas - CBS Interactive announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with Google's YouTube video-sharing site on a user-generated campaign called "15 Seconds," which seeks 15-second inspirational videos for possible airing on CBS. Submissions may cover any topic, and will be broadcast periodically on CBS. The first selection will be broadcast during pre-game coverage of Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4. The top 10 submissions, which must feature the THX logo and signature "Deep Note" audio effect -- played to showcase the sound quality in movie theaters -- will be featured on THX.com.

Bedminster, N.J. - Verizon Wireless announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with social networking service MySpace to launch a contest that will offer unsigned bands a chance to receive promotion on Verizon's V CAST Music service. The "Calling All Bands" contest encourages bands to submit an original song through MySpace, where finalists will be chosen by MySpace members. The winning band will receive release of a single, music video, ringtone and ringback tone through V CAST.

Los Angeles - Casual game publisher SkillJam Technologies announced on Monday plans to host a $1 million Skill Games World Championship. Qualifiers on SkillJam.com and partner sites including AOL Games, GSN, MSN Games, RealNetworks and Virgin Games -- a network of 9 million registered users -- will be flown to Los Angeles for the finals in 2006. Titles in the skill games tournament will include "Bejeweled 2," "Solitaire" and "Zuma."

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts on Thursday announced the launch of a video game development contest, challenging Computer Science students to create an artificial intelligence program for a video game featuring two military tanks. The "Tank Wars" contest will award the winner a new gaming computer loaded with EA PC titles. "In this competition, we have deliberately downgraded the graphics to emphasize the importance of A.I.," said EA's John Buchanan. "Over the next five to 10 years, A.I. is going to differentiate great games from the rest."

Atlanta -- Time Warner subsidiaries AOL and Cartoon Network on Thursday announced a contest that will let a video game developer create an online game for CartoonNetwork.com. The "Project Goldmaster" contest will be offered in conjunction with the Independent Games Festival, which will determine ten finalists from which Cartoon Network will choose a winner. The winner will then develop a game based on a Cartoon Network property such as "Codename: Kids Next Door," "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" or "Samurai Jack." Development of the title will be chronicled in an online AOL Journal, which will post video vignettes, early storyboards, screen images and interviews with the game-makers for AOL members.
