CBS to Launch Last.fm-Powered HD Radio Channels in 4 Cities

New York - CBS (NYSE: CBS) announced this week that its Last.fm social music discovery service will be used to "crowdsource" programming for new terrestrial HD radio channels in four top U.S. markets. The channels, which will be available as of Oct. 5 to HD radio owners in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco, will feature a mix of music from Last.fm's user-generated weekly charts, "combined with live performances and interviews from the Last.fm studios in New York, and event updates."

Musicslu Debuts Fan-Financed Recordings Service

Los Angeles - Musicslu has launched a new fan-financed recordings service, where artists can solicit the money they need to record an album from fans, and then release the resulting album for free under a Creative Commons license, TechDirt reported. Under the terms, fans do not pay until the total amount posted by the artist is reached. Musicslu's model is similar to existing fan-finance recording services Slicethepie and Sellaband.

London - Slicethepie, an online fan-financed recordings community, has raised about $1.4 million in new funding from a group of private investors, Billboard reported.
