CBS to Rebrand CSTV as CBS College Sports Network

New York - CBS has announced plans to discontinue its CSTV brand, which will become known as the CBS College Sports Network as of next month. CBS Sports will also begin developing proprietary programming for the cable network. CBS acquired CSTV in January 2006; in addition to its cable TV network, the company operates over 200 official collegiate athletics websites, and streams audio and video of more than 10,000 college sporting events annually.

CSTV Debuts "Fans Only" Sports Social Networking Service

New York - CBS's (NYSE: CBS) CSTV and CBS Sports on Friday announced the launch of Fans Only, a social networking platform that lets sports fans create their own sites with news from thousands of sources, virtual tailgates, blogs and game picks. Fans can free create pages to follow their favorite teams, adding multimedia content such as streaming video highlights, statistics, polls, rankings and chats.

CBS to Fold CSTV Operations into CBS Sports

New York - CBS (NYSE: CBS) announced this week that it will fold its College Sports Television Networks (CSTV) businesses into the operations of CBS Sports, to include CSTV.com and its network of over 200 official collegiate athletics websites. Day-to-day operations at CSTV will now be overseen by Tony Petitti, EVP and executive producer for CBS Sports. CSTV founder Brian Bedol will stay on during the transition, and remain a senior advisor to CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves. CBS acquired CSTV in 2005 for $325 million.

Amp'd Mobile to Broadcast Live NBA, NCAA Games to Cell Phones

Los Angeles - Virtual mobile network operator Amp'd Mobile announced on Tuesday that it has signed agreements with the NBA and CSTV to broadcast live pro and college basketball games to mobile phones.

World Series of Games Events to Air on CBS, CSTV, VOOM HD

New York - The World Series of Video Games announced on Monday that it has signed deals with CBS, CSTV and VOOM HD Networks' Gameplay HD to air coverage of its 2006 season on television. The agreements will bring a combined 20 hours of international video game tournament coverage to U.S. TV, including "They Got Game," a one-hour special on the stars of the World Series of Video Games that will air on CBS.

CBS' CSTV Networks Launches Mobile Alerts, Ringtones

New York - CBS Corporation's CSTV Networks, a provider of college sports coverage, announced on Wednesday that it partnered with VeriSign to launch a new mobile service. CSTV 2 Go will initially offer custom ringtones and wallpapers from 100 colleges across the U.S., and customized team news alerts that let subscribers select the sports and frequency by which they receive alerts -- down to per inning, per period or per half.

CBS Unit CSTV Launches 100+ Broadband Channels for Live College Sports

CSTV, a division of CBS, launched on Friday 100 new broadband channels dedicated to live college sports. CSTV’s offerings will include separate channels for the following conferences: Big East, Big West, Pacific 10, Southland, West Coast, Mountain West, and Conference USA, in addition to dedicated channels for individual schools. In most cases, CSTV will share revenues from subscriptions, advertising, merchandise and other sales, with participating schools.

CSTV to Offer Podcasts of Weekly Coaches' Shows

New York - CSTV Networks, a unit of CBS Corporation that provides on-air and online coverage of college sports, announced on Thursday the launch of a new podcasting initiative. The company will now offer podcasts of the weekly press conferences, coaches' shows and other events from schools including UNC, Georgia, Washington and Villanova on CSTV.com, as well as from Apple's iTunes Store.

CBS Acquires CSTV: College Sports TV for $325 Million

New York - Viacom's CBS announced on Thursday that it has acquired CSTV Networks, a broadcaster and webcaster of college athletics, for $325 million. CSTV: College Sports TV televises 30 men's and women's college sports, and hosts nearly 250 official collegiate athletics sites. CBS said it intends to closely integrate CSTV's operations with its own CBS Sports and CBS Digital Media units, adding that the addition of CSTV.com users will give it the Web's largest online sports audience, with 19 million unique users. The company will continue to be run by founder and CEO Brian Bedol. "Putting our existing resources and events together with these great cable and online assets makes tremendous sense," said CBS chairman and Viacom co-president Leslie Moonves. "In bringing our operations under one roof, our presence in the college sports community grows even stronger, and the programming possibilities on national cable, regional sports networks and the Internet are very exciting indeed."

Cable Network CSTV Buys OCSN College Sports Website Business

Boston -- Student Advantage, an integrated media and commerce company, announced that it has sold its Official College Sports Network (OCSN) college sports website development business to CSTV: College Sports Television, a nationwide cable TV network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. OCSN said that nearly 5.8 million college sports fans visited its collective sites during August 2003, which include official sites for the University of North Carolina, Notre Dame and Ohio State University. CSTV will re-brand the OCSN network under its CollegeSports.com domain.
