Current TV: 9 Out Of 10 Viewers Prefer User Generated Ads

From Future of Television Forum West Joel Hyatt, co-founder of Current TV (with former Vice President Al Gore), said that their viewers by far prefer user generated so called "VCAM" ads over professional ads in his morning keynote.
“We have seen that 9 out of 10 of our viewers prefer user-generated ads over the Madison Avenue generated ads,” said Hyatt.

Current TV Puts All TV Content Online at New Current.com Site

San Francisco - Current TV, the cable TV network and Web platform founded by former Vice President Al Gore, on Monday announced the launch of a new website, Current.com, which among other things will bring all of the network's TV content online. The site now also features a multiplatform electronic program guide and a new Multimedia Wiki, where any user can contribute multimedia content on various topics. One feature no longer available on the site is the ability to post Current videos on users' websites and blogs.

Virgin America to Feature Current TV on In-Flight Entertainment System

Burlingame, Calif. - Virgin America, the low-fare airline scheduled to launch on Aug. 8, said on Monday that it will offer the Current TV network's programming on an exclusive channel on its in-flight entertainment system. The channel will include user-generated content created by Current TV viewers.

Limelight Networks to Provide Content Delivery for Current TV

Tempe, Ariz. - Limelight Networks announced on Monday that it will provide its content delivery network services to Current TV, the pro and amateur video network co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore. "Our users are hooked on viewing and voting. The success of an online video community is absolutely dependent on the quality of the video experience," said Smith Forte, vice president of online for Current TV. "Limelight Networks enables us to consistently deliver high-quality video content to our community, regardless of site traffic or video size."

Current TV Network to Launch on BSkyB in the U.K.

London - Current TV, the network founded by former Vice President Al Gore that combines user-generated and professionally-produced content, announced on Friday that it has signed an agreement with British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) to launch its network in the U.K. and Ireland. The deal, which will allow viewers there to submit their own videos for potential inclusion on the network, will bring Current to 8.2 million households that subscribe to Sky Digital.

Yahoo Debuts Co-Branded Site for Al Gore's Current TV

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo announced on Wednesday that it partnered with Current TV, the viewer-created content network launched by former Vice President Al Gore, to launch the Yahoo Current Network. The co-branded online TV network will offer Current TV's mix of user-submitted and professional, studio-produced content, on specialized channels for action sports, cars, travel and current events. A total of eight channels are scheduled to launch by the end of 2007. Each week, the best user-submitted video from each channel will air on Current's television broadcast, and its producer will be paid $500 by Current TV.

Current TV Expands Carriage Agreement with Comcast

San Francisco - Current TV, the network featuring user-generated content launched by partners including former Vice President Al Gore, announced on Monday that it has expanded its distribution agreement with Comcast, the nation's largest cable TV provider. Under the new deal, Current TV's availability on Comcast will increase from 500,000 to 8 million customers; with the expansion, the network's overall distribution will increase to 28 million homes.
