Oregon Bank Launches Local Artist Custom CD Promotion

Portland, Ore. -- Umpqua Bank, a large community bank in the Pacific Northwest, on Wednesday announced the launch of a promotion for new accountholders, who will be able to browse a catalog of tracks from local Portland artists and create their own custom 10-song mix CD. Umpqua partnered with Portland-based licensing company Rumblefish to provide tracks for its Discover Local Music program, which will be offered in the fall at select stores in Oregon, Washington and California, as well as from UmpquaMusic.com. "The Discover Local Music program is a way for Umpqua Bank to showcase and support local artists while interacting with customers and the community on an entirely new level," said Umpqua Bank CEO Ray Davis.

HP, Starbucks to Offer Custom CD Creation Service in Cafes

Seattle -- PC maker HP announced on Friday that it has partnered with Starbucks to offer an in-store custom CD creation service, where patrons may choose tracks from an in-store digital music library. BusinessWeek.com reports that Starbucks will offer the service in 2,500 stores, beginning with the launch of the first "Hear Music Café" in Santa Monica, Calif. next Tuesday. The service is expected to offer a library of 250,000 songs. Starbucks also offers wireless Internet access in many of its retail locations.

Music Choice Lets Digital TV Viewers Create Custom Music Channels

Horsham, Pa. -- Music Choice, a provider of digital audio programming channels to cable and satellite TV providers, announced on Monday a new service that will let digital TV viewers create their own custom music channels. The service will be powered by, and be available on Massachusetts-based SeaChange's video-on-demand platform. By scrolling through a few television screens that prompt them to pick music genres and sub-genres, viewers will be able to build music channels that include up to three of their favorite music genres, such as Classic R&B, Rap and Gospel. In addition, they are offered a list of approximately 8 sub-genres in each music genre to pick from to ensure their music channel delivers the music they are most interested in hearing. Pennsylvania-based Music Choice's programming is offered by cable TV operators including Adelphia, Comcast, Cox and Time Warner Cable.
