National Archives Taps Amazon's CustomFlix for On-Demand DVDs

Scotts Valley, Calif. - Amazon.com's CustomFlix on-demand DVD service said on Monday that it has partnered with the National Archives and Records Administration, to make thousands of historic films from the National Archives available for purchase on Amazon.com. The Archives holds more than 20,000 motion picture titles; its collection of Universal Newsreels from 1920 to 1967 will comprise the initial offering through CustomFlix DVD on Demand. Thousands of public domain films and other U.S. Defense Department and U.S. Information Agency titles will be added in the near future.

New York - ABC News announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Amazon's CustomFlix to make hundreds of hours of historic programming available for purchase through the DVD on Demand service. The content will include broadcasts of "Good Morning America" and "Nightline," among other programs, and specials like "Royal Wedding: Prince Charles & Lady Diana" and "The Assassination of President Kennedy."

Santa Cruz, Calif. - CustomFlix, a unit of Amazon.com that provides on-demand distribution of CDs and DVDs, announced on Tuesday the launch of a new CD on Demand service for independent musicians and record labels. CustomFlix will manufacture and ship CDs as customers place orders from either CustomFlix or Amazon.com. Santa Cruz, Calif.-based CustomFlix recently launched a similar DVD on Demand service for independent filmmakers.

Toronto - InDplay.com, an online licensing marketplace for film, TV and video rights, announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Amazon's CustomFlix Labs unit, to offer a professional DVD fulfillment service for independent filmmakers.

Amazon's CustomFlix to Sell "Charlie Rose" Episodes on DVD

Santa Cruz, Calif. - CustomFlix Labs, a unit of Amazon.com, announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with "The Charlie Rose Show" to offer more than 1,000 broadcasts for purchase through its DVD On Demand service, which creates each disc as it is ordered. Santa Cruz, Calif.-based CustomFlix said it will add thousands more episodes of Charlie Rose over the next several months.

Amazon.com Buys On-Demand DVD Creation Firm CustomFlix

San Francisco -- Online retail giant Amazon.com has acquired CustomFlix Labs, a provider of on-demand DVD creation services, The Los Angeles Times reported. Amazon did not provide financial details on the deal, which comes three months after its purchase of BookSurge, a provider of print-on-demand books. Founded in 2002, Santa Cruz, Calif.-based CustomFlix creates and stores digital copies of less-popular films and TV programs, and only prints a DVD and accompanying packaging when an order is placed -- saving room in warehouses.
