Los Angeles - OGPlanet, a publisher of free online multiplayer games that generate revenue through the sale of virtual items, announced on Monday that it has received an undisclosed sum of venture funding from a group of gaming and digital media executives. New investors in the company include former Disney Online president Richard Wolpert; GameSpy founder Mark Surfas; former RealArcade vice president Andrew Wright; and BellRock Media CEO Peter Levin.

Konami Settles Trademark Suit, Acquires Rival Dance Game from Roxor

Tokyo - Japanese video game publisher Konami has settled a lawsuit it filed against fellow developer Roxor, over that company's alleged trademark infringement of Konami's "Dance Dance Revolution" game with its own "In the Groove" dance game, GamesIndustry.biz reported. Under terms of the settlement, Konami has acquired the intellectual property rights to "In the Groove," while Roxor has pledged to respect Konami's intellectual property rights in the future.

Wilton, Conn. - The Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA), a new Web-based consumer advocacy group for gamers, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired politically-oriented video game news site GamePolitics.com, and partnered with game publisher NCsoft on an Internet safety education program. Financial terms of the ECA's acquisition of GamePolitics.com were not disclosed.

Ad-Supported Mobile Game Distributor Greystripe Raises $1.2 Million

San Francisco - Greystripe, the developer of a service that distributes free, ad-supported mobile games, has raised $1.2 million in its first round of venture capital financing, VentureWire reported. Investors participating in the round included Incubic Venture Fund, Monitor Ventures and WS Investment Company. San Francisco-based Greystripe's AdWRAP network sources ads from advertisers and delivers them through its network of mobile games, which includes titles from publishers like 3D Arts, Big Blue Bubble, Blastone, Cellufun, Chakra Interactive and HandyGames.

Foundation 9 Entertainment Acquires Atari's Shiny Game Studio

Los Angeles - Independent game developer Foundation 9 Entertainment announced on Monday that it has acquired the non-game assets of Atari's Shiny Entertainment studio. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Under the deal, the development team at Shiny will remain intact and co-locate with Foundation 9's The Collective studio in 2007. Founded in 1993, Newport Beach, Calif.-based Shiny's titles include two games based on "The Matrix" film franchise, and "Earthworm Jim." Foundation 9, whose studios include The Collective, Backbone Entertainment, Pipeworks, ImaginEngine and Digital Eclipse, is currently in development on more than 20 titles, including "Death Jr.," "Dirty Harry" and "Sonic Rivals."

Palo Alto, Calif. - Looking to capture a larger slice of the gaming market, Hewlett
Packard, the Palo Alto, Calif.-based technology giant currently embroiled in a boardroom spying scandal, said that it has signed a deal to acquire Calgary-based VoodooPC, a maker of high-performance gaming computer systems. Financial terms of the deal, expected to close in November, were not disclosed. HP said that it plans to form a separate business unit within its Personal Systems Group focused on the gaming industry, with VoodooPC co-owners Rahul Sood and Ravi Sood becoming the unit's chief technologist and director of strategy, respectively.

News Corp.'s NDS Acquires Video Game Developer ITE

London - NDS, a unit of News Corporation that provides content protection technologies for digital pay-TV, announced on Friday that it has acquired Denmark-based video game developer and publisher ITE (Interactive Television Entertainment). Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. In addition to console, handheld and mobile games that have sold a combined 8.5 million units to date, ITE has also developed interactive TV games including "Hugo the TV Troll."
