New York - Sirius Satellite Radio, a provider of subscription radio programming with 4 million subscribers, announced on Thursday that it has partnered with entertainment industry trade publication Variety on an entertainment news radio bureau in Los Angeles.

iBiquity Hires Firm to Expand Presence with Japanese Automakers

Columbia, Md. - With the adoption of its technology rising among Japanese auto makers, iBiquity Digital, the developer and licensor of digital HD radio broadcasting, said that it has signed a deal with Sanyo Trading to support and expand its presence with Japanese automakers.

XM Satellite Radio Terminates Deal to Acquire WCS Wireless

Washington - After failing to gain the necessary government approvals, XM Satellite Radio, a provider of satellite radio service to more than 6.5 million subscribers, said that it has terminated its planned acquisition of WCS Wireless, a Nevada-based owner of wireless spectrum licenses in geographic areas covering 163 million people throughout the U.S. The deal, which was worth about $200 million when announced last July -- but has since seen its value fall significantly with XM's dwindling share price -- was supposed to give XM the resources to launch a variety of new video and data offerings. Without regulatory approval, however, the two sides agreed to terminate the deal, freeing WCS to pursue other alternatives for its spectrum. The news sent shares of XM down 3.8% on Tuesday.

Sirius Satellite Radio to Launch The Catholic Channel This Fall

New York - Sirius Satellite Radio announced on Wednesday that it partnered with the Archdiocese of New York to create The Catholic Channel, which will feature talk, music programming and live daily masses from St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. The channel will also include content from the Vatican, including programming from Vatican Radio when it launches in the fall.

Sirius Satellite Radio Signs Deepak Chopra to Host Weekly Show

New York - Sirius Satellite Radio announced on Thursday that it has signed health and wellness author Deepak Chopra to host a weekly series on the subscription radio service. "Deepak Chopra's Wellness Radio" will debut in the summer of 2006.

CBS Radio, MSpot to Stream Stations to Sprint Mobile Phones

New York - CBS Radio announced on Monday that it partnered with mobile entertainment distributor mSpot to make three of its sports stations available to Sprint wireless subscribers. Mobile streaming of CBS Radio's WFAN-AM (New York), WSCR-AM (Chicago) and WIP-AM (Philadelphia) will now be accessible through mSpot Sports.

Mercora to Power User-Created Streaming Radio Stations for NME, Tiscali

Santa Clara, Calif. - Mercora, a provider of peer-to-peer streaming Internet radio networks, on Wednesday announced partnerships with U.K. music magazine NME and Italian Internet service provider Tiscali to launch co-branded Mercora radio station offerings for their customers. The services will provide NME.com visitors and Tiscali subscribers in the U.K. and Italy with the ability to create their own Internet radio stations featuring their own music collections, as well as browse and listen to their friends' stations. Both services will be offered for free to NME and Tiscali customers. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Mercora's peer-to-peer streaming radio network boasts 3 million tracks and over 100,000 channels available at any time.

Mark Cuban to Host Show on Sirius Satellite Radio

New York - Sirius Satellite Radio, a subscription radio service with four million subscribers, announced on Tuesday that it has signed Dallas Mavericks owner and dot-com billionaire Mark Cuban to host a weekly talk show on Sirius. "I plan on raising hell and covering any and all topics that I think are interesting and taking no prisoners along the way," said Cuban. "Mark Cuban's Radio Maverick" will cover sports, business and other topics when it launches this summer.

Harris Corp. to Provide HD Radio Equipment to Cumulus Broadcasting

Las Vegas - Harris Corporation announced on Monday that Cumulus Broadcasting, the nation's second-largest radio station owner, has signed a multi-year agreement to use Harris HD Radio transmitters and other products to deploy HD Radio at 80% of its stations through 2012. HD Radio, developed by iBiquity Digital, allows broadcasters to transmit a digital signal alongside their traditional analog signal broadcasts.

Kia Motors to Offer Sirius Satellite Radio as Standard Feature

New York - Sirius Satellite Radio, a subscription radio service with over 4 million subscribers, announced on Thursday that Kia Motors America will offer Sirius as factory standard equipment on all of its vehicles. The agreement, which runs through 2014, will see Sirius become a standard feature in all 2009 model year Kia vehicles.

XM Satellite Radio to Broadcast Live Shows From The Knitting Factory

Washington - XM Satellite Radio and rival Sirius Satellite Radio on Wednesday announced separate initiatives that will bring live independent music to their subscription radio services. XM announced a partnership with Knitting Factory Entertainment, which owns two venues in New York and Los Angeles that showcase independent music, to broadcast a regular "Live from the Knitting Factory" series. The series will begin airing in the fall on one of the seven channels XM devotes to independent and alternative music. Separately, New York-based Sirius Satellite Radio said on Wednesday that it has scheduled live in-studio performances and interviews this month with artists including Wolf Parade, Billy Bragg, the Flaming Lips and Belle & Sebastian. The guests will appear on Sirius programs including "Left Of Center" and "Disorder".

Motorola Adds Content From Sony BMG, MediaBay, AccuWeather.com to iRadio

Las Vegas - Cell phone maker Motorola announced on Wednesday that it has licensed the catalog of major record label Sony BMG for inclusion on its Motorola iRadio service, which delivers commercial-free radio channels to cell phones, and via Bluetooth to PCs and car stereos.
