French Streaming Service Deezer Names New CEO

Paris - France-based streaming music service Deezer has named Axel Dauchez as its new CEO, replacing Jonathan Benassaya, who was recently ousted by investors, TechCrunch reported. Dauchez was previously chief executive at animation firm Moonscoop. "Deezer is already a fantastic success but is still far from having exploited its full potential," Dauchez said in a statement.

CEO of French Streaming Service Deezer Ousted by Investors

Paris - Deezer, the France-based streaming music service, has seen its co-founder and CEO Jonathan Benassaya forced out by investors, TechCrunch reports. The investors were reportedly not satisfied with the performance of the company with relation to ad sales and the recent switch to a $14 per month subscription model. Deezer reportedly counts 10 million users in Europe, but was only able to convert 10,000 to paying customers over three months.

Streaming Service Deezer Adds Premium Subscription Plans

Paris - Deezer, a France-based, ad-supported streaming music service with 11 million members, on Thursday announced the launch of a new subscription-based offering. Deezer Premium, which will first be available in France before expanding to the rest of Europe, will provide ad-free streaming, mobile access, and the ability to download tracks and playlists. A $7.42 per month tier will provide higher-quality, ad-free streams, while a $14.85 per month tier will provide downloads and mobile access. Deezer recently raised $9.6 million in new financing.

Warner Licenses Songs to French Music Service Deezer

New York - Warner Music International (NYSE: WMG) has signed a deal with France-based, ad-supported music service Deezer, that will see Warner tracks made available on Deezer in France, the U.K. and Germany. Under the deal, Warner will receive promotional consideration for its artists, as well as be able to control editorial content on Warner artist pages.

Deezer Licenses Sony BMG France for Ad-Supported Service

Paris - Deezer, a France-based, ad-supported music service (formerly Blogmusik, an unlicensed service), has announced a licensing agreement with major label Sony BMG France. The deal includes free access on Deezer to a library of 165,000 Sony BMG songs. Deezer also recently signed an agreement with French copyright society Sacem. Deezer co-founder Jonathan Benassaya told Billboard the company is considering adding an unlimited download feature to its service, where users would pay a subscription fee, and also said the company is in talks with several European ISPs about integrating the service into their offerings. Deezer claims one million registered users for its service.

French Free Streaming Site BlogMusik Returns as Legal Service Deezer

Paris - BlogMusik, a French site that let users stream MP3 files available on the Web for free, and was subsequently shut down in February at the hands of copyright society SACEM, has re-launched as a copyright-compliant site called Deezer. While Deezer has secured agreements with SACEM, the company said it is still in talks with major music labels and the Society for the Management of Independent Producers' Rights (SPPF). Deezer said it already has hundreds of thousands of users, and has developed its browser-based service in 16 languages.
