Survey: Among Consumers, File-Swappers Spend Most on Music

London - Those who download songs from unauthorized file-sharing services are the consumers who spend the most money on music, according to a survey of 1,000 16-50 year-olds with Internet access conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of London-based think tank Demos. The survey found that one in ten of the British respondents admitted to using free file-sharing services. File-swappers were found to spend about $120 a year on music -- 75% more than the $72 spent by those who aren't on file-sharing networks.

EMI's Parlophone Label Debuts Online Demo Submissions

London - Major record label EMI Group's Parlophone label announced on Tuesday the creation of an online service where aspiring musicians can upload their demo recordings and publicity photos for consideration. Written by a former musician, the software tracks which recordings have been reviewed and rated by Parlophone -- and also relays this information to musicians. "One of our top priorities is to keep our talent spotting process as efficient and up to date as possible," Nigel Coxon, head of Parlophone's artist and repertoire team, told AP. Coxon added that the label, which is home to artists including Paul McCartney and Radiohead, hopes to transition all demo submissions to the online service in the coming months.

THQ's "Titan Quest" Multiplayer PC Game to Ship on June 26

Agoura Hills, Calif. - Video game publisher THQ said on Monday that developer Iron Lore Entertainment's "Titan Quest" roleplaying PC title has gone gold, and will ship to retailers on June 26. A single-player demo of the game is available at FilePlanet.com.
