T-Mobile, Orange to Merge U.K. Operations

London - Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom announced on Tuesday that they will merge their T-Mobile UK and Orange UK units, respectively, into a new joint venture that will have a combined customer base of 28.4 million, or 37% of all U.K. mobile subscribers.

Germany's Musicload Service Shifting to MP3 Format

Berlin - Germany's Musicload digital music service, a unit of Deutsche Telekom, is slated to make more than 95% of its 6.5-million track catalog DRM-free in April, Billboard reports. The move follows Apple's announcement last week that all of the tracks on its iTunes Store will soon be available for purchase without digital rights management.
