Buzz Watch: Digital Media Meets Art at LA’s Venice Contemporary

Authored by dmw on March 30, 2007 - 11:42am.
DMW Mixer Tomorrow evening from 7-10pm, DMW and The Deity Group will bring a first to the art world at The Venice Contemporary in Los Angeles.  Dubbed an Art Download Party, the event will bring together technology and the art world as never before.  Attendees with a cell phone or PDA (so, in other words, everyone) will be able to download free, exclusive content like wallpaper and ring tones from the artists and the band, Population Game, at the gallery.  Vector Mobile is running the download end, and the open bar (not a first in the art world, but always appreciated) will be provided by Red Bull, Effen Vodka, AGWA, and The Heroes.  Everyone’s welcome, but an RSVP is required...and we nearly have a full house right now, so get on it fast!  Hope to see you there!

Video blogging, or vlogging, is getting more and more popular. GameNetTV, a new video network built strictly for gamers, recently vlogged DMW's and the Deity Group's Art Download Party at the Venice Contemporary. Mr. Mike looked at the art, ate a turkey sandwich and hung out with "the cool kids".

DMW Featured in the Wall Street Journal

Authored by dmw on March 27, 2007 - 2:08pm.
Check out the Wall Street Journal's article about how DMW is a must-read in yesterday's edition:
"Based in Los Angeles, DMW is a hub of information about digital media, though not a hometown cheerleader for Hollywood (L.A. is a company town and most of its news outlets treat it that way). A wire service for digital media, DMW provides the top stories of the day, breaks news, and puts everything in context. Publisher Ned Sherman is more than the average pundit: He is an attorney and has an inside grasp of what is happening. The site also hosts first-rate conferences and has the best job board in new media. It is without fear or favor regarding news and catches the news that others miss." The article appeared in the Journal Report: Technology section in both the print and online editions, which featured Web sites recommended by Jim Griffin, managing director of OneHouse LLC, a Virginia-based technology consulting company, and one of the leading minds in digital media.

Weekend Read: The Porn Stars and the Geeks - A CES Hangover

Authored by Scott Goldberg on January 12, 2007 - 3:47pm.
Ron Jeremy, Scott Goldberg - AVN/CES 2007Scheduling geniuses brought together two worlds in Las Vegas this past week that aren’t as far apart as they may seem: tech geeks and pornographers. The former (seemingly 95% male), and the latter (at least 95% female), mingled beautifully at post-show bars and clubs all over Vegas and it wasn’t difficult to tell the two apart. The CES crowd looked overly practiced at ogling gadgets and more than welcomed the opportunity to direct their digital cameras to the spectacular AEE (Adult Entertainment Expo) crowd, which in turn were all too ready to offer photo ops.

A Thank You to Future of Television Forum Participants

Authored by Ned Sherman on November 20, 2006 - 10:16am.
Dear Future of Television Forum Participants,
Future of Television 2006 - LobbyThank you all for participating in the Future of Television Conference. We are really happy to have met a record number of 479 people who attended, with many staying all the way through the last panel on Friday afternoon! All of us on the Digital Media Wire team certainly appreciate the time and effort that everyone put into making the fourth annual Future of Television Forum the biggest and most successful event so far. We also want to particularly thank our co-hosts: The Consumer Electronics Association and the NYU Stern School of Business.

During the extended two-day event, many of the hottest issues, technologies and applications in the television, Internet and mobile video industry were discussed. We also got a reality check from big networks, where top executives from ABC, CBS and NBC gave the audience an update of what they have found to work and not work on new platforms, as well as on traditional television.

We very much look forward to hosting the conference again in New York City on November 15 and 16, 2007. To view editorial coverage and photos of the event, click here. We also welcome your ideas on how to grow the event in 2007. Please send your ideas to: television@digitalmediawire.com.
