Apple in Talks with DoCoMo, Softbank for iPhone in Japan

Tokyo - Apple (NASD: AAPL) is in talks with rival Japanese mobile operators DoCoMo and Softbank on launching its iPhone in Japan, but both companies are unhappy with the cut of subscriber revenue that Apple is demanding, sources from the companies told Reuters.

NTT DoCoMo Debuts Touch-Screen, Aromatherapy Phones in Japan

Tokyo - Japanese wireless developer NTT DoCoMo on Tuesday introduced several new mobile phones, including one with a touch-sensitive screen and another that features aromatherapy skins. The D800iDS clamshell handset, from Mitsubishi Electric, features a touch-screen that will let users send handwritten messages and drawings, and likely figure in some gaming applications. Sony Ericsson's SO703i "aroma" handset will be available in nine different designs, each with its own uniquely scented skin designed to relax users while making calls.

 

SeeStorm Mobile 3D Avatars Added to NTT DoCoMo Chara-Den Service

Tokyo - SeeStorm, a developer of speech-to-motion and synthetic video conferencing technologies, announced on Wednesday that Japanese wireless network NTT DoCoMo has integrated the company's mobile 3D avatars into its Chara-Den service. Tokyo-based SeeStorm's technology lets mobile users turn camera phone photos into animated 3D characters ("avatars"). The characters can then represent callers on mobile video conference calls, where the animated character speaks based on the caller's real-time speech stream.
