User-Generated Doritos Ad Most Popular in Super Bowl Poll

Los Angeles - A user-generated TV spot created as part of a contest by Doritos was the most popular ad in USA Today's 21st Annual Ad Meter poll, besting pricey, agency-created ads for Anheuser-Busch, which has won the past ten years in a row. The "Free Doritos" ad, featuring a crystal ball and vending machine, was created by brothers Dave and Joe Herbert, or "two nobodies from nowhere," as 32-year-old Dave told USA Today.

New York - PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) plans to offer a $1 million prize to the prospective creator of a Doritos ad for the Super Bowl that beats all of the other ads in USA Today's Super Bowl ad rankings, The Wall Street Journal reports. PepsiCo ran a similar user-generated Doritos ad contest for the Super Bowl two years ago, which generated a reported $36 million in free publicity. The Journal noted that Anheuser-Busch has won the USA Today Super Bowl ad poll every year for the past ten years.

Doritos Contest Asks Users to Create Ad to Air During Super Bowl

Plano, Texas - Doritos announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Yahoo on a contest that asks consumers to create and shoot their own Doritos Super Bowl ad, with the winning ad to air during the football game telecast. Yahoo will accept 30-second submissions and post five finalist videos online in January, when online voters will help choose the winning user-generated Doritos ad to be featured during the Super Bowl. Each of the five finalists will also be awarded $10,000 cash.
