New York - Marvel Entertainment said on Thursday that it has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with video game developer THQ (NASD: THQI), which will create video games based on the Marvel's kid-friendly Super Hero Squad franchise. The initial game is scheduled for release in the fall of 2009. Separately, THQ said it signed a deal with DreamWorks Animation to publish games based on the studio's 2010 fall animated feature film, currently under the working title "Master Mind." DreamWorks Animation SKG today announced that Lewis Coleman, the company's President, has been elected to DreamWorks Animation's Board of Directors, effective immediately. Before being named President of DreamWorks Animation last December, Coleman had served on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of its Audit Committee. DreamWorks Studios has named Jeff Small as Chief Operating Officer, it was announced today by Stacey Snider, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Prior Small was COO at Revolution, where he oversaw business and legal affairs, finance, physical production, and administration. Santa Monica, Calif. - Video game publisher Activision announced on Wednesday that it will open a game development studio on the DreamWorks Animation campus. The new studio follows a multi-year strategic alliance between the publisher and the film studio, and will facilitate simultaneous co-development of animated feature films and Activision games based on those films. Activision is currently working on games for DreamWorks Animation's "Bee Movie," "Kung Fu Panda," "Rex Havoc," "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Shrek the Third".

Los Angeles - Japanese video games firm D3Publisher announced that it has signed an agreement with film studio DreamWorks Animation, to develop games based on its "Flushed Away" digitally animated film. Developer Vicious Cycle will create versions of the game for PlayStation 2 and GameCube, while Altron and ART will develop titles for Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance; all are slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2006, alongside the film's theatrical release.

Katzenberg will become CEO of the new company, which produced the successful "Shrek" animated films, and expects the offering to double its production capabilities. The animation studio plans to use $175 million from the IPO for potential acquisitions and joint ventures, according to the SEC filing.

New York -- Vivendi's Universal Music Group has reached an agreement in principle to buy DreamWorks Records for about $100 million, Billboard.com reported. The label, founded by the team of Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, is home to artists including Rufus Wainwright, Eels, Q-Tip and the late Elliott Smith. Under the terms of the agreement, DreamWorks would operate under Jimmy Iovine at Universal's Interscope/Geffen/A&M label group, although it remains unclear whether DreamWorks will retain its identity as a separate label. DreamWorks is also reportedly seeking to sell off its music publishing business for between $200-$300 million.
