Report: Nintendo to Debut Larger-Screen DSi in Japan

Tokyo - Nintendo is prepping to release a new version of its DSi handheld game system with a larger screen in Japan, Reuters reported, citing the Nikkei business daily. The screen on the new model is expected to be over 4 inches, up from the 3.25-inch screen sported on the current model. Demand is reportedly dwindling for the DSi, which faces increasing competition from game-friendly mobiles like the iPhone. The new DSi could launch yet this year in Japan, and is expected to cost about the same as the current model, according to Nikkei.

Nintendo DSi Owners Can Upload Photos Directly to Facebook

Redmond, Wash. - Nintendo of America said on Monday that owners of its DSi handheld game system can now upload photos taken with the device's on-board camera to their Facebook profiles. The feature utilizes the Facebook Connect platform, and will make Facebook more accessible to DSi owners, who number over 1.7 million in the U.S. alone.

Report: U.S. Video Game Sales Down 17% Again in April

Port Washington, N.Y. - U.S. video game sales were down 17% in April to $1.03 billion, the second decline in as many months for an industry that had previously shown resilience in the current economy, according to sales data compiled by market research firm NPD Group. While game software sales plunged 23% year-over-year, to $510.7 million, NPD noted that April 2008's numbers up were nearly 50% on 2007, fueled by the release of blockbusters "Mario Kart" and "Grand Theft Auto 4."

Nintendo: DSi Sells 600K in North America, Europe at Launch

Tokyo - Nintendo has announced that the company sold 600,000 units of its new DSi handheld game system across North America and Europe during its first few days of availability, GameDaily reported. The DSi has to date sold over 2 million units in Japan since it went on sale there in November 2008.

Nintendo to Release New DSi Handheld Game on Sunday

Los Angeles - Nintendo of America plans to release its third-generation DSi handheld game system in the U.S. on Sunday, with a price tag of $170. In addition to dual screens, the device also features two cameras and a built-in microphone. The company has to date shipped more than 100 million DS units since launching the device in 2004, and has sold 2 million DSi units in Japan since it went on sale there in November.
