Virgin Mobile USA to Acquire Helio for $39 Million in Stock

Warren, N.J. - Virgin Mobile USA, the wireless telecom services provider, has signed a deal to acquire Helio, a wireless services joint venture between EarthLink (NASD: ELNK) and SK Telecom, for about $39 million in Virgin Mobile stock. Helio has about 170,000 existing subscribers with an average revenue per user of about $80, and a handset inventory of about 85,000 units with a book value of about $17 million.

Atlanta - EarthLink, one of the largest ISPs in the U.S., on Friday confirmed that Korea's SK Telecom will invest up to $270 million in Helio, the companies' wireless voice and data services joint venture.

EarthLink, an Atlanta-based Internet service provider, has named Rolla Huff as its president and CEO, replacing Gary Betty, who died from cancer earlier this year. Huff previously served as the chairman and CEO of Mpower Communications, a provider of voice and data services, from 1999 to 2006.

Alviso, Calif. - TiVo announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Internet service provider EarthLink, to offer bundled high-speed Internet and digital video recorder services.

Helio Nears 100,000 Subscribers; Launches Mobile Music Service

Los Angeles - Helio, a wireless network venture between Earthlink and South Korea's SK Telecom, on Tuesday for the first time revealed subscriber figures, stating that it expects to pass 100,000 subscribers early in the second quarter of 2007. The company added that its average revenue per user (APRU) is over $100 per month, above industry averages. Los Angeles-based Helio also announced the launch of a new mobile music service, which will deliver $1.99 tracks from all four major labels over-the-air to mobile phones. The company will also soon launch a direct-to-PC download option, costing 99 cents per track.

EarthLink CEO Garry Betty Dies of Cancer at Age 49

Atlanta – Gary Betty, CEO of EarthLink, who joined the company in 1996 and helped grow it from a small regional, Internet service provider into one of the largest ISPs in the country, has died of cancer at the age of 49. Betty took a leave of absence in November after being diagnosed with a serious form of cancer.

EarthLink, DirecTV to Offer Bundled Broadband, Satellite TV Service

Atlanta - Internet service provider EarthLink announced that it has partnered with satellite TV operator DirecTV, to offer customers in select markets a bundled package of DirecTV and EarthLink broadband Internet service. The bundled service is expected to launch by the end of the first quarter of 2006, although the companies did not provide pricing or launch market details. DirecTV, which has a similar agreement with broadband provider SBC, currently claims more than 15 million customers.

EarthLink Launches For-Pay Sports Service with NFL, NHL Content

Atlanta -- Internet service provider EarthLink on Thursday launched a premium subscription sports service for its subscribers that will offer streaming audio and video of Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, NASCAR and college sports. The company's $9.95 per month EarthLink Premium Sports service will be powered by New York-based Synacor, which enables ISPs to offer bundled premium media content through its deals with various providers. The service will also include a fantasy sports offering, and content from SportingNews.com and Motor Trend magazine.

EarthLink Offers Co-Branded Music Download Service with Musicmatch

Atlanta -- Internet service provider EarthLink announced on Monday the launch of a co-branded digital music download store with San Diego-based Musicmatch, a provider of music jukebox software and subscription services. In addition to the download service, which will offer 350,000 songs for $0.99 each, EarthLink will offer its subscribers Musicmatch's premium jukebox software for $19.99, as well as access to co-branded versions of the company's other streaming music subscription services. Musicmatch's jukebox software will now also be bundled with EarthLink's 2004 Internet access CD-ROM discs.

EchoStar, EarthLink to Offer Bundled Satellite TV, DSL Services

Littleton, Colo. -- Satellite TV operator EchoStar, which operates the DISH Network, announced on Monday that it has partnered with Internet access provider EarthLink to offer bundled satellite TV and DSL high-speed Internet services. DISH Network customers can save up to $120 a year when they subscribe to both DISH Network and EarthLink DSL, receiving $10 in monthly credits on their combined bills.
